RGS fuse box replacement

Hi folks,
I have had a problem with the engine cutting out then starting straight away on the button. Thought I had traced the problem to one of those continental fuses. They do seem very flimsy
Has anybody replaced this type of fuse box with a modern type with 'glass' fuses.

I usually replace those old ceramic type fuse boxes with the blade type.

Plus one just make sure you get a good quality one though as got stranded once when one of the spades broke off from vibration on a cheapy one. Usually now go for a brand like Durite or Narva etc. you can even get them now with little LED's to tell ya when the fuse is blown  :o

having been let down with ignition failure through loose torpedo fuses (may have evn damaged my BTZ boxes) and charging failure  again by the torpedoes, this picture shows what I did.

Dave  - interesting question!

My RGS has a replacement fusebox with LEDs.  Can't recommend that - the contacts are ridiculously small, have no 'spring' and so don't grip the ATO fuses securely.  I'm amazed they stay in place with vibration...probably thanks to the cover!

Arrangement shown uses a live bus connection too, so some jigging around with original wiring required.  The whole thing is losing 1 volt  of the 12 being supplied to it - useless.  Am just about to replace it with the non-LED type shown - similar to Clem's photo.  Has beefy full width contacts as Littlefuse intended with their original concept.

Can use standard wiring (make sure you get one that doesn't shroud the spade terminals otherwise your insulated spades won't fit).  Only challenge is finding space for it...and getting the wires to reach!

All this means that staying with the original arrangement has something to recommend it - take the fuse cover off once in a while for a bit of preventative maintenance.  Red RGS has more than 80k on it with no problems.

By way of an update - just spent the wet afternoon proving that a 4 way blade fusebox can be made to fit an RGS.  (Don't try to make sense of the wiring - it's non-standard)  Just needed to shave a bit of width off the plastic feet and drill new fixing holes.
