RGS Motor Mounts

I just took off the foot rest plates off the RGS to do some cleaning and found that the screws holding both of the rear motor mounts to the frame  were loose. Do you think that would affect handling? :o
I've never had those plates off and the nuts are nyloc so I'm wondering if it came this way from the factory...hmmm You might want to check yours... anyone else seen these bolts loosen up?

Yep! They worked loose on my RGS, didn't notice any difference in the handling but certainly not a good thing. They need nylock nuts and loctite (and anything else that comes to mind) to keep them tight.
Add them to your three monthly maintenance routine.

Yeah, sure have! On my 120 jota 3 of the 8mm bolts were stripped where they screw into the frame from overtightening or vibration.I`ve drilled & tapped the holes out to 10mm & fitted new high tensile bolts with loctite on the threads. Torqued the bolts to 5ft/lbs higher than the 8mm bolt spec.then re-torqued the silentbloc mounts to original specs. It reduced the high frequency vibes a lot and has made it easy to ride 300 -500 klms without getting numb hands.Do it. These nuts/bolts are often loose.

The factory did not use nylocs, stock fitment was flanged, self-locking with metal insert, 12mm AF in the case of M8.  You'll find this type all over the bike.

Seems that once they're done up properly, all's well.  Either Luigi slumped once again, or the paint under the bolt head/nut spread itself out, loosening the fasteners in the process.

I misspoke on the "nyloc" they are as you said self locking with steel insert. I did wonder if Luigi had indulged in too much vino as all four nuts were loose about the same amount...one can never tell, at least they were all there

Just went past mine in the garage and looked to see what you were talking about... and noticed the bolts on the upper engine mount are both actually coming undone!!!  :o

I'll check it all at the weekend.... Thanks for the heads up.

Those are the easy ones to see - reach behind the footrest casting and there will be two more on each side...check the front ones too and make sure they're all tight...

We quite obviously had a different chap do up our nuts! And he had muscles or an air wrench.
The 84 Sprint JOTA required a 3 foot extension on the T bar to get them undone to remove the motor for REDAX treatment.
The RGS and CORSA are just as tight.  My bet would be the paint behind the nuts and on the frame bosses has fretted away or gone hard and powdered away to very little, leaving nuts that are not fully tightened against the frame.
But as has been suggested, items for the planned maintenance days that get you out of the house into the mancave. :D
