RGS speedo drive

Investigated a malfunctioning speedo today and it looks like the gear drive, mounted to the front wheel, is extremely warn. All the other parts, speedo, cable and speedo shaft appear to be fine. Could any of you knowledgeable folk advise how the warn part can be removed from the wheel ?

In addition, could anyone advise if there is a spacer between the speedo drive housing and the right hand fork leg. Seen a few posts on this, but nothing conclusive.

Thanks.

A factory-issue puller is handy for gear removal.  :D  If the gear is fucked anyway, you can gently hit it with a punch and hammer.

There should be a steel washer recessed in the speedo drive housing for the spindle to press against, no further spacer required (even if a slight space to the RH fork leg results once the spindle and clamp screws are done up!).

Procedure for tightening front wheel; Tighten spindle nut a little while checking speedo drive is located correctly, tighten LH clamp bolt fully, tighten spindle nut fully.  Remove the bike from stand and with front brake applied, compress the forks as far as you can a few times.  Replace on stand and fully tighten the RH clamp bolt, DO NOT try to take up the space between RH fork leg and speedo drive.

Had the same problem with my speedo drive. Found the gear wheel is a light interference fit. I took the disc off and after placing some bits of wood on the hub I used a pair of tyre irons to lever the gear off. Turned the gear over and lightly tapped it back on, should be ok until you can source a replacement.
Dismantling, cleaning and regreasing the gear drive assembly has become a maintenance task every time I fit a new tyre.
There will be more 'correct' ways of doing the job but the above worked for me.

A week too late, there was some bench racing about this last Sunday at the Barry in between races... rivet counter on one side mechanic on the other, both fast riders as it goes and both long time Lav owners .....with an old fart standing on the side lines listening intently ( bloody slow rider and but long time owner/fettler also as it goes ) ... ......my vote at the time was for the mechanic's version ........seems to me that Piet, said mechanic and myself and  are all from the same school, old skool that is  :o  :P :o

Sorry rivet counter .....looks like weight of numbers has passed you by this time still surely there are some rivets somewhere that need counting some more.

Thanks Terry. Useful advice too, will give that procedure a try first. Gear ring is fairly knackered, so unlikely to be salvageable in the short term.

I know who was there are the time,I know who the Mechanic is.Keen to learn who qualifys  for the other descriptions. It was bloody funny at the time
