Shure, the gearbox was working well befor and noone had withdrawn the missing part before?
You searched the drained oil (if you did that)?

If it is an actual demage and if it is absolutly nothing in the area you can see, you have to search inside.

You can use such a tool:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Magnetheber-500mm-flexibel-Stabmagnet-Magnetgreifer-Magnetstab-700g-beweglich/173427806589?epid=1905692540&hash=item28611a517d:g:NLYAAOSwHMJYHEZH:rk:1:pf:0

The rest of the spring lies on the bottom of the housing (99%).
As the tool is flexible and long, you have a good chance to find the missing part, if you check the whole area on the bottom.

How to come in?
- holes towards the gearbox
- open oil-filter cover
- hole of the dipstick

Second posibilty is to use a smal, flexible (USB-)camera + additionally an flexible magnet.

Another posibility: Ask a surgeon or gynecologist for help ;-)

Good luck.

The other end bears on the edge of the pawl, pressing the pawl onto the pins of the selector drum.

Yeah, somewhere around there, been a while since I last needed to replace one.  The spring will fit properly only in the one position.

There are two typs oft construction at Laverda-shifts.

One is working with a spring that pulls the selector arm to the selector spindle, the other type is an spring clamp that pushes the selector arm to the selector spindle.

You have the type that pushes the arm to the spindle on the left.
Either the spring is broken off at one end, or it has just hung out.

Can I thank to all for your help so far. My assistant Kev has been handling the correspondence for me  up to know as I hadn't worked out how to log in until about half an hour ago! I was stung into action due to Kevs spiteful words.
Clutch out no problem thanks to your helpful tips spring replaced. Clutch plates reinstalled, not so easy but after a two or three attempts managed to line them up ok, or so I thought.
Something is sticking and the actuation rod isn't returning,  so I'll be taking it apart again tomorrow to try to find why...

If you have retained the anti-rattle springs that load the 2 rear-most clutch plates (the ones that make the lining up of the plates and basket replacement such a pita  :D), it may be possible you didn't line up the clutch basket when you replaced it.  You will find 2 pairs of raised cast lines on the oblique edge of the basket, these show where the according cut-outs of the basket splines are, these should then be placed corresponding to the anti-rattle springs.  If the basket is forced over these springs, everything will jam...

Now I just need to work out why the clutch pick up/off points have changed and it's slipping a little under load... ::)

the pressure plate on a triple will only fit in 2 spots out of the available 6 places
did you make certain it was fully engaged over the splines ?
