Hello. I'm new to the group and I have just purchased a 72 SF and could'nt be happier. Well maybe a little. I have just finished reading the message "Charging Systems" started by Stevio-Laverda, and it just so happens that after installing a new battery and pushing the starter button my SF turns over very slowly and seems to run the battery down quickly. Would this be a case of the starter drawing too many amps or does anyone have any other ideas. If it is the starter would a regular rebuild shop be able to check it out.

<DIV>Basically a bosch Vee dub starter, any shop would overhaul it for you.  WHy not look at it yourself.  May just need new brushes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Marty</DIV>

Yes Brian as Marty says the starter is a breeze to overhaul, well worth looking at. Could be that the bushes are a bit worn and might be dragging a bit. Clean up the planetary gear drive at the same time and all the cable connections. If the starter makes an awful noise when engaging then also look at the starter clutch drive, easily serviced, details are down on the list someplace.
If you are " Smack dab in the middle of Canada" you must be close to me (Saskatoon). Laverdas are a bit thin here, I have 2 and know of only 2 others in Saskatchewan.

triple starters are bosch----or SJCE copies of Bosch
twin dynamos are bosch
Twin starters are nippon denso ( almost one horsepower)
they are very simple though. and should present no real problems

<DIV>Thanks for the feedback gentlemen, it is greatly appreciated.</DIV> <DIV>Spring is here, the snow has melted and I can't wait to get going.</DIV> <DIV>I have been reading through alot of the earlier discussions and its great to see all the advice, tips and tricks people are giving.</DIV> <DIV>And to Dennis I live in Winnipeg. I know of a couple of bikes here and I just read in an ealier discussion that a fellow I know "Alun" just sold his Jota before he finished putting it together. I'll have to give him a call.</DIV> <DIV>Thanks again</DIV> <DIV>Brian</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
