I hope someone out there understands what I'm on about.

As part of a restoration on my SF1, I sent some parts away to be bright zinc plated one of them being the bush that goes through the sprocket plate, I now find that it is a very tight fit going through the two bearings which are new and fitted correctly.

Would a thick coating of bzp cause this ?

I suppose what I would like to know before I put it in the lathe and skim it is should it be a tight fit or should it be a nice sliding fit in the bearings

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Joe - depends what you mean by " very tight" - if you can push it in by hand or with some light taps with something reasonably heavy - then it's fine. bearings should show no signs of extra friction when spun - If you need to "skim" it - best to emery it down in the lathe a tiny bit at a time. - regards - Phil

yes it would i had the same problem on a GTL750 aftre coating so i just got a brass wire brush in a drill and clean the shaft of the rear wheel spindle. this fixed the problem. providing your brush can remove the plating

Once bolted up, the cush drive bush will be firmly held in place, so a firm sliding fit is as tight as you'd want to ensure the bearings are not binding at all.
