SF2 Brake Shoes

Hi Jason,
Pretty sure you can get new ones from Wolfgang but there used to be a place in Brisbane that could put new linings on any shoe, they did my SF2 shoes about 30 years ago. Unfortunately he died and it's now a flower shop, but I'm sure if you google brake shoe relining something might come up in sudknee.

I see you do instrument repairs, could you fix my vagliar RGS tacho? The balance weights have vibrated off it again. They need to be attached properly somehow. Otto did it last time and it lasted about a month.

There's nothing technically special about Laverda drum brakes. Pretty much any brake & clutch workshop could re-line the shoes. You need to give them the drum as well so they can set the finished diameter of the shoes to fit the drum ID. If the drum is scored, it may need to be skimmed, in which case you'll more than likely have to disassemble it from the rim unless their brake drum lathe can swing the full wheel diameter.

Right what Dell?man said, any brake place should be able to do it, and for a rear brake you don?t need any fancy linings. if they want to skim the drum you will need to have it assembled with the rim. Trueing up can pull the drum out of shape.

Thank you for your replies, I should of measured the linings before I assembled the rear wheel, I have a new cable and find I can only get a reasonable good brake pedal with the adjustment nearly all the way out. Will speak to my local brake place.

Hi Jason,
I have them in stock.
Cheers Greg
They really do need to be skimmed to suit the drum - if not there's a high likelihood that only a portion of the shoes will be contacting the drum when actuated. A foolproof trick with ANY moto drum is to apply the brake hard while the nut axle is loose and tighten the nut while still holding. This centres the backing plate to the drum and can make a huge diff.

I usually have the wheel off the ground, loosen the nut (and pinch bolts, of course), spin the wheel, pull on the brake and tighten.

As Tippie says, no need to go crazy on a rear.

These guys were recommended to me when I  made the same enquiry earlier this week for my Grimeca. Haven't got out there yet but will. http://www.cbaus.com.au/
