SF3 balance hose

I've wondered what, if any, advantage is the balance hose on the inlet manifolds on the SF3. Apart from somewhere easy to connect a manometer I cannot see how it benefits the running of the engine. Has anyone blanked them off and has it made any difference?

The only idea is it calms down idle. The hose diameter is so small it doesn't practically do anything in any other situation. If you take the hose away and plug the holes, idle may be rough (on certain bikes and on certain conditions).

I know this is a twin but
some triples have three plugs but most have the three ports connected with small bore rubber tubing, as Phil, I have never noticed the difference having ridden the same bike, fitted on occasions with either type, but I would have to say that on triples carb balancing is very much simpler as there is no need to fiddle those tiny brass plugs back into their tiny little threaded seats, if I was racing (only) or attempting a top speed run at (say) Bruntingthorpe, then I would have the plugs fitted, purely because I would not want one carb affecting what the others are doing.
