I want to explore better clip ons for my SFC1000 and mount them on the fork extension above the top triple tree, can others tell me what brands they have used if they have done something similar,
Tks M

Forged Magura.

Few and far between, but if you can get them, they are ideal for mounting atop the fork yoke.  Similar type available from Tomaselli, but most probably out of stock as well.  Were available in 41.7mm for the M1R forks.

Ideal to reduce the enormous reach over the tank, results in a far more comfortable rider posture

I have Telefix clip ons. They do them by request in 41,7mm, too (taking the 41mm and machine them to 41,7). They have multi-adjustable ones which are quite good if you torque them right. They are also available in black, which comes closer to the original look. Also, if you drop the bike and they bend, you can get all single parts separately, which is a nice service.

you can even mount them below the top yoke, as they raise the handles 30mm.

If you don't want that, take the "Racer", they do not lift the handles and are a bit less adjustable, which makes them easier to install:

both, as said, are available in black, too.

I've seen a pair of GSXR750 clip ons converted to suit an SFC1000 - same generation of GSXR as we steals the wheels from.

It seems VFR750 clip ons are an option as well - if memory serves the VFRs had 41mm forks from '88 to '97 (possibly later; certainly late RC24 ie 88 - 89 and RC36 VFRs  did) so it's a case of opening them out to 41.7mm and removing the locating pegs/boltholes. The alloy clamp should polish up nicely - must get the pair in the shed through to Keith (or another suitable machine shop) for conversion.

I must be weird, the long reach over the tank suits my physique and the SFC in standard trim is the most comfortable bike I've owned

Hey Lothar my bike has those Telefix clip ons now but being a midget they are making a fun bike no fun and a lot of vibration transfers through them, those Maguras look interesting anybody know of a supplier?

Have used GSXR Suzuki and VFR 'bars on SFC1000's both need boring out. Make the bike almost as comfortable as an RGS.

Hi Maurice - do you have these big weights at the end of the handles? They take away a lot of the vibes... there are also vibe-absorbing rubbers. check with your local motorbike store, worth a try, still cheaper than new clip ons...

I used CBR600 bars on Christiane's RGSFC thingy, they are 41mm so need boring to 41.7.  They are 1 piece cast solid aluminium all the way down, so firstly they don't crack and collapse like the originals, and secondly they seem damp vibration nicely.  The CBR was from the blobby UJM era CBR's, I guess late 90's or so.

Don't hold your breath Maurice, they were difficult to come by in the correct size back then, hens' teeth nowadays.  Not even sure they are still being made at all.

Like Keith and Steve, I've adapted jap clip-ons sucessfully, used early GSXR items that only needed very little machining.

Being a bit of a short-arse myself, I've never felt at home with the stock bars on the 1000SFC.

I have Guzzi 1100 sport clip ons on my SFCRGS.  Early (carbed) 1100s had M1Rs fitted.  Only cost a few quid on Fleabay as well. (unlike just about every bloody thing else on the bike!)
