SFC1000 rear brake

Since new the rear brake has always been rubbish. With new front rotors I'm reminded how bad the rear is. Are there any improvements to be made.? Might lash out and change the brake fluid and inspect the pads.

Hi Andre,

the rear brake is - crap by design... The master is to big (taking into account that the front master with 15mm has to serve 2 Calipers and the rear master with 13mm only one, the lever can't be long enough to compensate that...), the bores are unprecise and the pads are also not helping really. If you could (!) replace it with a 11mm, that would just work fine. However, that is not an option I think, unless you want to completely build a different holder

I have changed the rear setup of my Jota to the GSX-R Caliper and a 12mm Brembo master. This is capable to even block the BT012SS (150-70-18) if I force it. Have the same Caliper on the SFC1000 but still with the original (but overhauled) master - no joy... I plan to construct something as soon as I get all the other things fixed I have on my looong, loooong list...

At the risk of being a lone voice in the distance, the rear disk on my Jota 120 is very handy indeed! It doesn't lock up too easy, but is quite powerful and controllable. It can't be too different from the SFC one can it?

Perhaps it is the pads (Brembo something or others) or the teflon coated pistons? I dunno. Also the lever and bell crank assembly is set up for maximum mechanical advantage.

Hi Simon,

I am not 100% this really makes the difference, but the SFC has the F08 Oro Calipers and a different master cylinder. Not sure about the size of the Jota master, but if it is 12mm instead of 13 as with the SFC, this would make a difference...

When I got all the changed things on my SFC put into the official papers (like the GSX-R-Rims, different brakes, different exhaust etc.), the german T?V tested the brakes with a G-force meter. The rear ones decelaration was just above the minimum value of 2 G ... The T?V guy said that this would be below what the engine could brake the bike if you close throttle, but it was within minimum specs, that's why he let me get away with it...  :-[
