Shell V-Power

nothing is free in Switzerland..... :D

not true! If you want to take a pish or a dump along the road in a public rest area it's free :D
Dunno about other Swiss fuel, but I know that "Eurosuper" has 5% ethanol (at least).

I forgot about the Antipodean rest area in Switzerland, where you can actually use a 1 Euro coin to open the door of the cubicle.
Silly me would have tried to use a Swiss Franc coin......

OK smartarse  :D

Maybe it was a Swiss frank. It was 2009 so my memory is a bit hazy.

At least the Swiss have toilets, unlike France. Rest areas in France have bushes. Often with unpleasant "leavings" of other tourists.

Many years ago Shell introduced their sport fuel (well, sort of). Didn't Work well, and they had to take it out of the market. Big tv stories of engines collapsing because of Shell.

Some years later the reintroduced the stuff, now different additives supposedly. The v-max.
I've run on that ever since. No probs on either the Laverda SFC1000 or my Corrado G60 or my Esprit Turbo SE.

I've had the G60 on a rolling bed, and used 98 octane from another brand - 183 hk.
Shell v-max (99) - 187 Hk.
Engine seems to be running smoother and a bit more quiet.
I may add that the 102 octane from Shell romania, also tried, run very very nice indeed. Didn't have enough to take home and re-run on a dyno.

Just my two p.

Kind regards,
Jacques.

BP Ultimate? The diesel version doesn't work very well..... Don't ask me how I know! Crickey, that was on the way to the Lav museum opening back in 06....time is flying.

all the basel cans take both. it's a clever way of ripping off the non-swiss, a ? is around 1.20 chf

I must be travelling through a different Switzerland than everyone else here! The last time I stopped to take a leak at Pratteln (Basel) it cost me nothing. Same at all other defecating locations I can remember. At a nice rest area near Thun they play music inside the building, I remember listening to Miles Davis :D

Here in Germany they rip you off charging ? 0.70 to use a nasty, funky shitter at the big rest areas, and I wouldn't even think to go near any of the cans at the parking areas. No wonder everyone seeks relief in the shrubs and woods next to the rest areas.....

Back on topic....

Always used Shell V-power racing for the Spa track days, only readily available 102 octane fuel here.  We must be getting a better brew than the rest of the world.

Didn't notice any advantage, nor any disadvantage for that matter.  More for peace of mind I guess.

E10 is getting a lot of stick here, many won't touch it.  My MX5 is happy as a pig in mud with it.  Talked to a former Toyota Formula 1 employee recently.  He used to be in charge of valve train development and fuel management, said it was the best stuff to come out of a pump for a long time.  Burnt clean, no knock tendencies, and cheap to boot!  (Being subsidised somewhat by the government, about 5?c / litre cheaper than normal 95 octane Euro Super)

When Optimax first hit the market in Sydney I had fowling problems big time with it.Avoided it for years, but lately got stuck and used Shell 98,not problems on that tank full.I prefer the Caltex but after the latest Shell working OK I am happy to fill IF I HAVE TO.Ed,have you checked the chokes are coming off OK.As I said on an earlier post, expect some fettling for a while.Keep in touch with the list and work though it.

Ask Drikko what my spelling is like,I kinda lobbed a big one at him on anther forum about it.Probably a little to big of a sledge hammer,I get a little sensative about it.Its no differant to any other disability, like stuttering.Funny as hell if you dont stutter.Life changing if you do.And its the first port of call for your below average troll on the net.If you saw that syber bullying story on 60 minutes tonight it just so patetic when its done malisishly,I havent spell checked this to idicate how it comes without any fuilter.Thats the way my brain does it.

Don't stress about it your spelling Vince. There are probably more important things in your life to worry about. You make yourself understood well enough.

I think your creative spelling is quite entertaining. It was the mental image of you having problems with your chooks that tickled my funny bone.

My old French teacher once told me to just give it your best shot when trying to communicate. She meant talking to French people but the same applies to spelling. If you mess it up and make someone smile then you've done a good thing.

Cheers,
Cam

I took the bike for another spin. I seemed a lot happier on Caltex 95.

Ive checked the choke plungers and they are actuating properly.

Pulled the plugs after about a 30km spirited ride around my area. Idled as little as possible, stayed around 3 to 5k rpm.

Plugs are sooty black all over apart from the electrode that doesnt look too bad.

I will post a picture when I have a chance.

It was also spitting every 30 secs on idle so have riched it up a little.

Not sure if this is just me being over paranoid.

Eddie do a couple of important checks firstly check the inlet spiggots are tight on the head (dont overtighten ) just check that there is no air drawing secondly check the clamps that clamp the carb bodies onto the spiggots are also tight and not drawing air, if you have some aero start spray it around this spiggot are while the engine is idling if the idle increases it may be drwing at he inlet.
If your carbies are close idling wont foul the plugs particularly with the powerful ignition you have.

I checked the inlets and sprayed aero start around. The rpm did not budge. It seems to be much happier on regular fuel.

However the plug below only has about 30-40km on it. Spiritied driving around the local area.

Do they look correct?

Thanks
Ed

Eddie it is difficult to read plugs with modern fuels and really plug chopping is done on a wide open throttle.
If you can get out on the highway at a happy engine speed say 4000-4500 RPM on a constant throttle and remove the plugs you should find a tan colored centre electrode.
If your accellerator pumps are working correctly they may be adding to that black carbon looking electrode.
