Silver DMC 'Dip' Switch Positions

Lacking any information on my silver DMC unit I again come back to the well.  :-*  The dip switches are all set to the 'down' position, that is, nearest the numerals, 1, 2, 3, 4.  Given that my fuel is likely to never exceed 91 octane, and that I will likely be at 1500 m MSL most of the time, is this where they should be?  Or does fuel grade or elev even matter?

Hi Rockit
Good to see you making a heap of progress. Your ignition looks like it is a series 1 Witt the first were alloy then later blue anondised so the same as the one I am still running in the Corsa.... if you go here you can see how to set the switch positions to achieve the curves.. I am running curve 5 on the Corsa but am thinking will eventually go to another ignition which will be a lot friendlier on the starter clutch. http://laverdaforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11173/DMC1_original_instructions.pdf

Curve 1 [32deg] - as set by the manufacturer
Curve 2 [26 deg] - use with very poor petrol or pre-ignition with poor petrol
Curve 3 [29 deg] - use with poor petrol or pre-ignition
Curve 4 [32 deg] - revs limited to 6500 for 'running in'
Curve 5 [34 deg] - as set by manufacturer, but with a different max advance
Curve 6 [34 deg] - for motors with lower performance at low revs (e.g. 3-in-1 exhaust)
Curve 7 [36 deg] - as set by manufacturer, but with a different max advance
Curve 8 [36 deg] - for motors with lower performance at low revs (e.g. 3-in-1 exhaust)

Curves 1-8 are set by the first 3 DIP switches. The fourth DIP switch puts the unit in test mode

If you check this post then you should get some idea of what the differences in the curves are...
am sure if you use the search function you can find a lot more info on these ignitions in particular for use with your fuels in the U.S.

Thanks Brett. Very helpful.

It appears my box is set to off, off, off, and off, or Ignition curve 1 as set by manufacturer.  I guess I'll try it there and see ho see goes.  I can go to curve 3 if I get any detonation.

Yeah, I could do that, but would rather just adjust the engine to allow for use of available fuel.  I'm just lazy.

I use position 3 on my 78 Mirage just in case I only have access to Regular (91 octane). It goes well enough for me on that setting..

Be very careful comparing octane ratings between countries.
Do your homework and good luck with being lazy.
