Maybe some of you remember the alternator cover I removed from what became the gold bike?
I nicknamed it smileyface for obvious reasons.

Well, I decided to rescue it and had a plate of alloy laser welded over the gap.
I dressed it up with a file and today got it back from the polisher.

In the last pic you can just see the difference in colour between the new plate and the original cover.

The alternator clears the new add-in section and should give a few mm more ground clearance.
It will go on POP as soon as possible.

I'm still waiting on a second one back from the laser welding guy. That one was very badly split and scuffed and is having the bottom section of another crashed one welded in.
The beauty of laser welding is it is very localised and gives little or no distortion to the part being welded.
I have a couple of spare alternator covers for any future project needs, but I like the look of this one and it fits in with my views on what POP should look like.
