Step by step ceriani for seal replacement

So just about to take off wheel and low and behold when I get the wheel off the ground the steering head is way tighter than before. WTF

I took the forks out, changed the seals, how does the steering head suddenly become stiff?

Ask Sasha, we were on a Spencer club ride a few years ago and that happened to his Laverda, if the 2 nuts don't act is a locknut type way by physically touching each other it seems turning the bars in these 2 cases nip up the lower nut tighter. I don't know why they don't loosen instead. I think Marty sorted Shashas out. Something isn't in the right assembly order, eg maybe a spacer. Luckily that day I had my cutdown 12-inch shifter to loosen the nuts so he could ride it home.

Ok good, at least I'm.not going mad.

Now WHY is the front wheel such a pig to get axle in and out? Works fine without the wheel, is it just more grease needed? Tips?

You said you had the forks out and then refitted with the stanchions raised through the clamps.
Could be that the axle holes arn't in line so I'd loosen the pinch bolts on the clamps fit axle in place and tighten the clamp bolts.
