strobe setting Sachse timing 750 sf

just installed my birthday pressy today but setting the timing (as most things) has me a little perturbed

should the timing be set as per the curve graphs, I'm not sure how to explain this but an example would be: curve 4 shows as being 8? advanced at tickover and when I set my strobe gun to 8? the timing marks line up, is this right

The Sasche system is set at TDC using the light on the baseplate, don't trust the factory TDC marking make your own using a piston stop to establish true TDC. I always then check and adjust timing at full advance when I check with my strobe eliminates any innacuracy that me creep in when trying to time it on the curve.

did you download the mounting instructions from Volker's website ?

set piston at top dead centre
once system is wired, you use the LED lights on the board to set the unit at TDC
black box then knows where it is in relation to the crank and does everything else from that point on
all you do is select which curve you wish to try next

From the site - page 4 - Adjustments

"Finally, check the ignition timing with a timing light and if necessary, correct the position of the pulse disc."

I was wondering about this myself.

is a backup check to make certain that TDC was correctly set in the first place
not everyone has a piston stop and timing wheel in their toolbox

Dave, as your engine is going to be the first engine to be run on our Dyno then your ignition will be set up when the engine returns to you
did you send me the carbs with that rusty pile of crap engine, I don't remember and is to far away to check
if you still have them and you want them dialed in as well you better ship them over
I'll con ask MarkQLD into sorting them out being Dellorto's

I thought that is what long screwdrivers were for??

You have my Dels but you are going to put a set of Miks on and send the Dels back untouched. Do I get a replacement engine when you have blown mine up testing your dyno  :D :-*

I had set it up as per the instructions on the site and used marks I had previously made ( not the factory one ) but I ran a piston stop up at work today and the marks were way out, I wouldn't have thought taking the sprag clutch off and on would have made any difference so maybe my original marks where just rubbish. will find out better when I take it home and can run the strobe over her tonight.

Hello, Bimbo.

From what I found up till now, it was always the timing mark on the case, that was out of the way.
Not the mark on the sprag clutch or the magneto.
