tachometer drive ?n

On a 79 triple I am having a difficult time fitting the cam cover while trying to get the tachometer drive gear to engage with the gear on the camshaft. Is there some kind of trick getting this to slide nicely into place?

It will go eventually. Just keep gently jiggling oscillating - DON'T force anything!! Make sure the cover is properly seated before attempting to bolt it down.

Put a flat screwdriver in the tacho drive and gently turn it, you will be able to feel which direction is correct (though if you look at the gears its quite clear).

HTH, Hagis.

...but don't use the screwdriver to force the cover into place, if you see what I mean. Just to very gently reduce the resistance caused by the tach drive.

Place the cam cover as close to head seating as you can then via the generator physically turn the crank backwards, it'll drop down nicely.

Got it! Bit of patience and following all the advice above it just suddenly snicked into place.
Thanks, Dennis

By heck, 20 years [1] and 100,000 miles of a 79 Mirage and I never thought of that! Mined ewe, never really had a problem with it anyway.

[1] sold it sometime around 2005, 't was knackered.
