Would one of you guys please be kind enough to let me know the dimensions of the later 180 tank , side panel and tail pinstripes ? Just the width of each and distance between the two. I shall be painting my 78 tank soon in gold but I'm a sucker for the later stripes and will paint those at the same time.
                                Cheers Tim

Showing my ignorance perhaps but I was unaware there were different sizes between the 1976 and later pin stripes

I'm more ignorant than you Davo I didn't know the earlier ones had pinstripes. I've only ever seen plain tanks on the earlier bikes. Now get your ruler out  :D

Hi Tim hows it going i took notes before i had my tank on the series two jota painted the large stripe was 8mm the smaller one was 3mm and the distance between the two was 9mm the distance between the top edge of the tank and the top of the thick line was 10mm. from the bottom edge of the tank to the bottom of the thick line was 18mm where the stripe drops down and going towards the front it went from 65mm to 75mm
hope this is of some assistance i have some good side shots of the tank if any good to you and after i gave these measurements and the photos to the painter he still got it fuggin wrong >:( >:( >:(

i have a pic of a series 2 jota tank with the rule against the stripes
sent off forum
they are tape, 8mm for the fat one 3mm for the skinny with a 9mm gap

i seem to recall the gap on the tail was narrower than on the tank, but maybe not
and the side cover stripes being about an inch below the recess for displacement badge

the sizes are odd for modern tape so you might want to paint them
if you use a base coat clear coat paint, lay the stripes under the clear

you could shoot a black base coat
let it dry
tape the stripes
shoot the color
peel the tape
shoot the clear

or you can take the gold parts to someone to hand paint the stripes
then put clear over everything

1/4" and 1/8'  are readily available tape sizes
and use a 1/4" gap

Many thanks for the pic JCorsa ideal. The idea is to shoot it all black , mask off then the colour coat and laquer we'll see how it goes !
Kev good to hear from you .Thanks for the info . A few shots below of progress so far. Head and cams  with Keith, forks straightend and back on. I made a stainless battery tray but may have dropped it too far and too near the chain on full compression. Witt box is on reg/rec fusebox and relays to go on. I've made the mounts just not fitted yet. Front wheel on tomorrow and source some oil hose then I can wheel it round the house !

The pinnies on my 76 were hand painted as were all the earlier bikes I saw in Oz. From memory the later bikes looked like decals.

Gavin Spencer (ILOC) has available sets of pin stripe decals for lavs at ?25 a set. No other info provided.

Hey Lemon , It's coming along. Tank and panels are painted . The black for the strips went on first , then masked and the gold over the top. looks to good to use and all i do is worry about scratching it. Dead plesed though cos the tank was in a shit state before . When and what time next week ?
