Tested to Destruction Again

While we were loading my bike last weekend after a service Brett found a distinct clunk while lifting the rear. I thought I had sorted it by snugging the swingarm a few months ago, it was more distinct now. It was hard to tell if it was swingarm pivot or in the shocks, Icons. So I pulled the shocks and found oil on the inner spring surface. Blown seal. I hadn't noticed any wallowing, in fact with a heavy tank bag , 100mm thicker dual touring seat fitted and 1 click more preload on the shocks for The Snowy Run the bike was a lot more comfortable and surefooted than it had been before the changes. I was contemplating a fork oil change as it had become harsh reacting to bumpy resent rides. So loaded up with the tank bag and sitting higher helped. We did a quick ride after the Snowy Run, without the tankbag and back with the lower seat and probably with the one blown rear shock and the bike was noticeably less stable going straight, not horrible but definitely noticeable.Took the shocks out to the suspension bloke who also found a cast horseshoe like piece in the top hat had cracked in half. He has seen this happen occasionally in Harleys and he thinks its a vibration issue causing the part to brake. He had been through these shocks before, fitting the 15mm longer top hats I got from Icon and servicing them, increasing the oil weight at the time to 7.5. Surprised him that one was leaking.Very rare according to him, and for 1 to go and not the other plus the bit braking.
So I broke another bit, who knew I was so hard on bikes.Anyway when its back together I will look at how its tracking without the tankbag like before.Be interesting to see if it was caused by 1 shocks lack of damping

I'm not saying anything about your big breakfast habits Vince, but have you considered  ;)

Vince, its the weight of your rear rack doing the damage.
The maintenance engineers on the harbour bridge would be quite happy to receive it back.

Take no notice of chrisk, he is just in awe of your big breakfast ability.

Correct and a little known fact is that  ever since it went missing and ended up on a certain Laverda from Cammeray way... they have had to put security gaurds on the bridge 24/7 before someone else nicks another one.
