Oil pump gear in sf is tight and hard to turn. I removed it @ 270 degress and it was extremely hard getting out. It was just about stuck. Ok now I checked it all out. When I screw in the pump screws loose but do not tighten its free and spins. Ok when I tighten it becomes hard to turn. Should I make a gasket? I am afraid it may take the crank gear off. Evan

If it gets tight after you tighten the screws I'd say something is bent or out of alignment. I'd be removing the gear, the pump cover and the gears and having a very close look at the whole assembly. DO NOT fit a gasket to it.
My advice is to take it to a mechanic with experience in these motors. You'll save yourself money in the long run.
