Clem,
You need to get some fish oil down you fast ;) You timecerted the lot! As you say though, the head was replaced...and Keith did timecerting on that though it was unused (the Slaters show engine head).

on each cam block which is the stud and which is the thru bolt then? Looking at the green book but cant make it out.

One 8mm stud per cam block, you only need 6 inserts. Full instalation instructions come with the kit. If the thread is baggy in the head slip a piece of tube over a bolt and pull the rest of it out, makes the instalation process a little easyer. If it has been previously helicoiled...... good luck

I had 3 studs let go recently while fitting new cam blocks. Two of them were old helicoil repair jobs from the past.  Big Sert fixed both up very nicely.  But like Keith says, get them in straight.  You can buy a drill guide for time serts which is a simple hollow steel tube about 2" long that you fit both the drill bit then the tap thru while holding it tight against the head surface. They don't make one for big sert which is strange.  Very easy to make one though if you have access to a lathe (which I do & did). I love Keith's solution for a guide using an old cam block.
