Triple Engine Installation

no, not really  :D

I still don't agree with using rags, or even the foam installation as suggested by DoC
problem is the exhaust studs on all the engines and the lower engine studs on the 180's
they will gouge their way through a rag or the foam quite easily and then you have a marked frame
is not really an issue for the experienced Laverda engine installer but a lot of readers here don't have any experience of installing a Laverda engine
there is definetly a knack involved that Piet, Keith, Scott and myself learnt years ago so is straight forward for us but for the owner contemplating pulling his/her engine out themselves I just know they will wind up getting it jammed/stuck at some stage
and that is when the rags don't work anymore, you need to have proper protection
didn't your Mum tell you to always use proper protection ?

First time I tried to remove a triple engine I was convinced the bastards had welded the frame up around the engine!
Nowadays it's a 30 second job.

I fully agree with Red as regards protecting the frame.  The installation however was an absolute piece of cake..You just need to be careful and take your time..be methodical..It's not rocket science...

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for all the advice, I decided to lay it on it's primary cover and got a mate to help me put the frame onto it. I covered the down tubes with PVC hose and duct tape... All went well and no chips in the coating.....so far!!

Yeah,

I just snarl and glare at it, so scared it jumps out by itself!! :D :D

Well, normally no more than 20 secs, in or out, with a helping pair of hands.  Takes a bit more time using the electric hoist, but is a lot easier on my back!  Just need to know the correct sequence... but sturdy plastic tubing remains a must, simply too easy to scratch the paintwork otherwise.

Just in case anyone worries too much about frame damage - my series 2 Jota engine was in and out on a regular basis (don't go there  :( ).

Due to the frequency and lack of knowledge at the time - I had the odd scrape or two. Bit of a rub down, mask up the engine and using a proper rattle can (one of the paint shop ones, not the auto factor ones - they are crap by comparison) and all was good as new for years. You really couldn't see the join.

Just wanted to say that scrapes are not the end of the world..
