Triple engine weight

I said I'd come back to this, when I had some weights.
the 1st picture is the engine without all the bits piled on top, ie, without primary internals, no starter kit or alternators or cam cover but, cams, head and chain included.64kg

Next pic shows all the engine , even starter (but no carbs or gear selector) 78.7 kgs, allow  + 2 kgs for my lightened crank + 1.8 kg for gear selector. ie 82.5 kg for a stock series 1 engine without carbs or oil.

Gear selector and cover, screws etc  weigh exactly 1.8kg

My carbs weigh 3.27 kg but these are RS38  I suspect dellorto are closer to 5 kg.

regards Rob

Two average strength blokes can pick one up and put it on a truck bed.

One bloke can lower it from the truck bed onto a trolly.

One bloke ( with a weight training belt ! ) can lift it from the trolley and into a frame and mount the engine bolts...

I know this because I have been down this path...

Uuummm, scales like that are woefully inaccurate if they aren't on a flat hard surface like concrete. Do it again!!
F&% , you do it. you dont think I might already have checked/levelled them ? I weigh 78kg at the Gym on 2 different scales, no surpise that the scales came up with a comparable figure  :o  :D

82,5 without Oil and carbs makes up for roughly 90 Kilos including both. I think that was what was said before - no?  ;)

At the risk of sounding a pedant, 90+ was quoted (which is closer than my figure of 75  without carbs or is it), I don't think you would include the oil or would you remove, dispatch one with the oil in it ?, I'm off this one man crusade  ???  :D

well - if you store an engine, you first have to remove it and you should never store it without oil - right?

To be more pedantic than you (pi-ing comp again, eh?  :D), here is what I wrote:

I think it depends if you weight the engine with oil or without, with starter engine or without etc. etc.. Also there might be a difference (even if just a small one...) between Series 1 and Series 2 engines. The answer is definitely somewhere in the area of 75 - 90 Kilos, nothing I would be able to move around "easily" or even lift without serious issues...

Keep in mind, Rob, your engine has been lightened, too, but surely not 15 Kilos...  ;)
