How many types of exhaust headers have there been for series one triples and I don't mean left, right and centre. :D

My instinct would be to say three:

The 3C and the earlier triples (inc Jotas) had a decent, heavy gauge version. I couldn't see any difference between a '74 3c and a '77 Jota.

The others are the later flared version that is wider at the header and quite rapidly changes to a standard diameter. Seen some with spigots and some without (so two more versions). Pretty much the same shape as the earlier one down to the collector. Not quite so sturdy (much more inclined to rust IMHO).

Having said that, Laverda were a low volume manufacturer and were subject to the whims of their suppliers - evidenced by switch from Ceriani to Marzocchi forks when Ceriani stopped supply (even though the Ceriani units are superior). Sure it could have happened with exhaust headers too ......

Not sure I have seen enough triples to be sure (I could have missed many versions), but it's a start...

i don't think the factory primary tubes changed shape in the series 1 other than late USA market tubes having a fitting for emission testing. there were a few different collectors used; 3-1, 3-1-2, 3-1-2 with large center come to mind and numerous silencers were used. different diameters, wall thickness, end tube length, seamed, seamless, with packing and without packing

my series 2 1200 and my 3C primary tubes are identical save for the emission bungs.  the 3C had the light, thin wall, big bore Healey built silencers with a jota collector when it came to me in '77. the 1200 also has a jota collector and USA spec jota silencer (this is a thick wall tube ~1/2" smaller OD than the ones on the 3C.

the flared end without a spigot are for RGS heads and have a different contour

all sorts have been made in the aftermarket

They were definitely fitted to 180s too - in the UK at least, they were also fitted to the TS Mirage with the normal 180 contour - I know this as I had a TS Mirage with them on from new and they are still in my workshop (I took them off, as they rusted pretty badly at the collector end, but always wanted to fix them up and reuse them, but just don't know how  :(  ).  Braze? Weld? any ideas would be great, as 3/4 of them are great.

None of the UK headers have emission bungs, so maybe that's why the never hit the US.

Have to agree with you there Pete when I got my Jota it had the flared headers on it and a set of straight ones with spigots as spares and that was before the RGS was available
