Triple Race Pipe

Who has what ideas on whats the ideal race pipe for my Martin triple?
Have a short megaphone on it now and can stick with that but would like to hear peoples views on how to get as much power out of her as i can.
What is the science behind 4 stroke pipe design?

The second question I ask when about to build a pipe is - what can you afford ?

Basically (very basic) the primary length to the 3 into 1 junction sets the torque peak RPM and the overall system length to atmosphere sets the peak HP RPM.
A muffler on the end complicates the issue slightly but with one fitted overall length comes down slightly as it acts as if it's a longer piece of pipe.

There are plenty of computer sim programmes about for 4 stroke pipe design which will get you pretty close to optimum.

LB,
We have 3 x Laverda Corse 3-1 systems here in stock, they are a very neat looking system and supposedly offer good power.
Actually bought 4 complete systems from Piero but one system is in use already.

Benefit of buying one of these systems from us is that we took a bike and the 4 systems and a very large wad of money to the local motorcycle exhaust shop and paid them to cut the systems up and weld them back together so they would actually fit.
This is one key feature that is missing when you buy one of the Laverda Corse systems direct.

Red,

Its highly unlikely that it will fit straight on the Martin.
But that doesn't mean it cant be modified to suit.
I have access to a couple of good people who could do justice to the required cutting and shutting.
Got any photos?
Ill go and get one of my current pipe.

Paul. How fast am i??
No where near as quick as i think i am.
Just hoping to build it vaguely right.

Red, have you done any dyno-testing with the system? how loud it is? am looking for a system for the Motoplast, too, but that has to be road-legal...

thanks

the Redax dyno is still unfinished business.  Red's got too many pharkin Lav's to rebuild !
but it does make a good engine test bed to run 'em up and check stuff.

reckon 1130 Clyde with the Corse system should be on a dyno soonish,  maybe another month,,  or two?
i'm guessing somebody must have got some dyno info on the Corse pipes by now?

cheers,  Mark

Thanks, Mark. That was my hope, too, but I neither Piero nor anyone else has yet provided any figures as of yet. Maybe - as Red's post implies - because the design isn't perfect as it comes from Laverda Corse...?!?

The system at that price is tempting, however, I think I will take a different system for running the bike in and then give the bike to SR-Racing in Bavaria to make a proper exhaust to optimally fit the bike. The cost are slightly higher (approximately 1.000? in total), but a) it comes in stainless steel, b) SR-Racing is known to find torque where no-one else does (or at least higher than anyone else around here) and c) the noise emissions are in an acceptable range so I do not get stress with police or at race-tracks with dB-Limits...

However, I still find the system tempting... I will - for sure - ask SR-Racing to make the downpipes removable below the first bend, as this really helps on oil-changes and other service work and also makes installation easier.

no, I did not say that, I tried to say that you may be able to get them to fit with the use of a sledge hammer and Oxy set
best is to cut them apart, redo some bends and TIG them back together
design itself looks fine to me

Here she is in all her glory.
Pretty basic really!

ay Bomber,  it's just me opinion,  but,,
way too short mate,  way too short for any good mid-range,  might start to work around 7k ??

and i should add,,  the Corse pipework looks a good concept and put together using some good processes.
it can be fitted-up and installed 'out of the box'  but,,  takes way too much pushing and shoving i reckon to get it to fit.
and i know stainless steel pipes fitted under stress,  ain't gunna do too many miles on our Oz roads before it needs some fencing wire!

i'm pleased with the purchase,  but had to throw a bit more cash at 'em to get 'em feeling happy and relaxed.
and reckon i should talk to the Corse blokes first,  coz somebody ain't paying enough attention.

Dug these out of a previous post from a year or two back.
Juicy.
They bloody look the part.
Thanks Bob.
Is this what you have for sale Red?

yes, same systems, except that they don't have that top wasted section anymore which is why I bought 4 complete sets in the first place
was interested in seeing how they performed but when our systems arrived they are sans waist piece
whereas the system posted to Aussie before our 4 sets and supposedly made at the same time does have the waisted section
pissed off, 4 sets cost a fair whack of $'s

some photos of the Corse pipes delivered to Redax a few months ago.  (after we got 'em to fit real nice)
Clyde's are now ceramic coated a nice black.  (except the tailpipe)
, and why did they run the weld seam down the outer surface of the tailpipe ?  and not the inner surface ?   phaaark !!  reckon the 'somebody' welded the mounting lug on upside pharkin down.
