before i start i cant tell you which tyre manufacturer this relates to because they are threatening to prosecute me if i do.
i bought a pair of new tyres jan 2011 (12mth old) upon checking them this week i found that the centre  grove had long cracks all around the circumference of the tyre. This was only the rear tyre, these tyres have only just done under 500 milefrom new.
These cracks are literally down to the carcase of the tyre.
This tyre is being returned to the manufacturer for evaluation.
Please go into youre garage or shed or werever you keep youre bikes and check youre tyres carefully, and hopefully no one will have an accident.
I do have more details but cant give them at the moment due to threat of prosecution.
This is not the first time this has happened. This is in the uk.

Must be more to this story. They wouldn't turn all heavy handed on you from the off, would they?
But if all you are doing is stating factually which tyre, which condition, which mileage etc why would they want to prosecute?

Tell us the story, we won't tell anyone.
What could possibly go wrong???

We could weedle it out by deduction..but you would need to tread carefully as this could be a slippery issue..

I'll start.." were they made in China ? "

I've run the same Pirelli Phantom Super Comp Radial 130/80VR-18 for some 20 years - Yes it's hard as a rock but not a Crack. I got tired of riding the bike straight up and babying her in fear that Phantom would just fly apart or cause me to slide out and have a Bridgestone BT-45 130/80V-18 on order and I'll need a die grinder to cut that old Perilli off.

Makes you wonder about these new tires Cracking along the Center Line - It didn't seem to be a problem years ago.

The manufacturer has admitted there is/was a problem with some tyres cracking, but they say that they have altered the way they make them.
I certainly wont be fitting these again, i have ordered BT45. to replace them.
Im not interested in the cost or the replaceing of the tyre only in peoples safety, its dangerous enough out there.
I dont actually know if the cracks would make the tyres any more dangerous or not but they certainly would not be ridden by me in that state.
Again please check youre tyres.
Pete.

See the pics below. tyre is a pirelli, lucky i spotted this. same thing also happened to Dartys front, scary scary,

Deja-vu? The Avon guys (not saying it was Avon in your case Peter but it would be interesting to know!) didn't threaten me in any way, they couldn't have been more helpful to be honest, excellent service and replaced it twice no questions asked.

Latest one still good after a few thousand k's.

BTW, not giving advice here but I'm not so sure they can threaten you. They would be better off rolling out the red carpet surely!

Hi Drikko.
The threat is there i think because i have it in writing that there is/was a technical fault with the compound and as a result they dont want that e mail being put on webb sites or sent to other bodies.
Still waiting to see the outcome once the tyre has been examined by the manufacturer.
                                      Pete.

well, if they sent the mail explaining the problem then it must be true and as far as i know you can't be stopped from telling the truth by law, at least not yet!

i knew a guy back when i was still in south africa who found something strange in a bottle of fizzy brown stuff- he phoned them and said what he thought it might be. they went round to him, picked up the bottle and left 6 crates of 1 litre bottles for him to enjoy!

"The Gods Must Be Crazy?" Very funny film, still holds the record for the longest running film in OZ at the Crystal Theatre in Brisbane.
