Looks like I need a new Bosch Voltage regulator, just wondering if any kind person may have a spare before I buy a new one?

Autoelectrics offer this bosch 11amp replica unit, but at ?113 is a bit ouch! (looking at prices of Lucas regulators just makes it worse)

I would even like to borrow one to be doubly sure mine is faulty, before buying a new one!

Also found this on the web at ?71 - looks ok?

I know that when I used a VW one it burnt out my dynamo. The genuine one - ie, with the same part number as the SF, sourced from an auto elec about 30 years ago - cost a lot more.

Many people these days use a plug-and-play transistorised(?) modernised version without drama.

Paul - I know the Bosch solid state version ain't cheap.  But it is plug and play as well as providing peace of mind with none of the original version's vibrating relay contacts to deteriorate over time.  Fitted one to my 750 with no trouble whatsoever.  The one thing that ruins the pleasure of riding an old clunker is dodgy electrics.

Hi Paul

First things first - take it apart and check the points are not stuck together. It happened to my SF0 on the way to Breganze and I fixed it mid-journey with no more than a screwdriver to dissasemble and a feeler guage [used as a scraper on the clagged points).

It's reasonably obvious how it works when you are inside, after a bit of thinking and much tea drinking.

I'm more accepting of the cost having slept on it :'(

I assume this Bosch version doesn't need to be rubber mounted like the original?

I've fitted a couple of the Bosch replacements, can recommend them.  Hassle-free installation and retains the original looks, a real bonus for rivet counters. :D.  They can of course be mounted flexibly, but don't need to.
