What to do?

It seems that we will be spending more time here in Vietnam than we had planned at first. We hope to return in June or July of 2026 for a few years. The guy who is renting me my scooter says that if I agree to a one year rental he will buy pretty much any bike I want. So I am considering a Family Truckster sort of scooter for the two of us, maybe a locally made electric scooter, and something fun just for me. Here is what is currently on offer from Honda and Yamaha. A usd is worth approximately 27k Vietnamese Dong

So far the Honda CB350 and the CB500 Hornet look good as does the Yamaha XSR 155 and the MT-03. And the Triumph Speed 400 is in a similar price range too.

I know these are tiny bike compared to western standards, but needs must! What do you think?

The Vinfast 200 EV scooter has a range of 205 kms and a top speed of 70kph. Just fine for getting around the city. It charges from 30% to 70% in 36min. Vinfast is building out a charging network with 85 online already.

The EV scooters in the rental fleets are just returned to the shop and exchanged for a charged up one as necessary. Very convenient.IMG_0370.jpeg
It’s nothing special, just a generic Vespa style scooter. It retails in Vietnam for $680 usd. Like I said: the Family Truckster. I’ll put a box on the back for groceries, you can see a single hook for grocery bags in the picture and there are kits to add more.

I’m more wondering of an MT-03 would be sufficient for Sunday fun rides and the occasional two or three day trip. Or if I need the bigger and more expensive 500 Hornet.
