Witt fitting advice.

I am tearing my hair out trying to make sense of Witt ignition fitting instructions.
I am fitting a DMC/32 to a MK1 1000 & have a translation of the German instructions that I think was done using Google Translate, or similar.
It says:
" Altinator coil for the BOSCH-HKZ control unit & the auxiliary altinator coil from the generator (both coils are assembled  together in a "piggyback" fashion and are later replaced by an individual 12 volt altinator coil)

It then goes on:

"Install the enclosed generator altinator coil where the already dismantled coils were installed. Once this is done, the 2 larger altinator coils have already been installed!"

To me this makes no sense. Do I remove both coils & replace with one, or replace one of the existing coils, if so, which one?

Thanks.

Pretty simple even if the translation is pants!

One of the two coils provides HT output (around 350v) for the OE CDI ignition 'black box' plus (via a separate winding on the same core) normal alternator output.  The other coil provides normal alternator output for battery charging via a rectifier.

So what you need to do is remove the dual wound coil (ditching the 350v output that is no longer needed) with the new single wound item.  This is connected in parallel with the other existing coil to (slightly) improve alternator output.

Good luck

the early series 1 has three coils under the alternator, two for charging and one for ignition. remove the smaller charging coil and the ignition charging coil, which are bound together. in their place install the supplied larger charging coil.

not mentioned would be to take the wiring from the two charging coils and wire them as 2 phase into a modern voltage regulator.

Please note that on the HKZ base plates, the mounting points of the ignition charge coil are a few mm lower than the ones the charging coil is sitting on. If you now just bolt in the second charging coil as delivered with the DMC, it will sit too low, reducing the charge output of that coil considerably. You have to add a couple of 5mm washer bewteen the coil and the base plate mounting points to get that coil at the proper height.

Regards,
Stefan

On one that I did a few years ago. I found that the new charging coil was touching the magnets on the inside of the rotor. The curved ends of the laminated core needed to be filed down a fraction of a millimetre to give a bit of clearance.
