I have a loan unit for looking at, but nothing spare to sell/mod. I think I have Sat off after 2pm until 4pm, so will bring it over about then.

Fit Formula cams, they will aid cold starting.  :D

Piet,

I am quite curious about this. What is about formula cams, ie timing and ramp angles etc that makes cold starting easier?

On another note, about 10 years ago I was looking at mellowing out the 750S (I've never needed the top end it has) and moving torque down through the rpm range. Ben(Alto) told me to ( and I hope i'm right, I haven't read that email for about 5 years....) retard intake and exhaust timing by 3 degrees. What would be the effect of that on starting?

Regards, Greg

ay Greg old mate,  pay attention FFS !!

The lower-tune bikes as the "S" models have greater difficulties with starting, less valve overlap means more resistance while cranking.
Formulas with wild cams spin a lot quicker on the button.

Thinking about "dialling" cams to achieve more overlap for easier starting of the 750S....just thinking - OK....
I have dialled cams before to good effect on big Jappas and referring to my guru and dialling bible I find the following....

Very generally speaking, the effect of moving lobe centers is as follows:
Advancing the intake and retarding the exhaust (?closing up the centers?) increases overlap and should move the power up in the RPM range, usually at the sacrifice of bottom end power.

So, Mark, I feel that Greg may be on the right track - for easier starting anyway... but where do we want the power?

OK - Job done - success -
Thanks to Greg for the loan of the starter, I have rejigged the wiring, cleaned up every connection I could get at
and the machine starts first press of the button every time.....
Could mine be the only 750S in Queensland that is running at the moment... 8)
Now, about getting my starter seen to....or getting hold of another one....

brillian! Report your first impressions of how it handles, please]

As if you don't know  :P

Mate you should ask how it sounds, they are staintune cans, sound like termis but a little more manly, I didn't know they even existed when I bought the bike originally

Great photo Horny

There is a red 750S Carenata (fully faired) on the road in Cairns - well it was in July when I was last up there.

Cheers
Jason
