Cars and bikes I’ve come across in my travels

lovely Jeep, I cant see if it has atailgate, if it does have that, it is a civilain body at least, without it, it is ex military, if it has Ford scripted components then it is 100% wartime, without that, it may be a Willys or a Hotchkiss it could even be a Mahindra!, I like the BB as well, always wanted one of them to go with the South coastal beach front property that I havent bought yet.

I thought there would be more air cooled VWs here and the few buggies here at the shore stood out. This red one is a more modern design, but there is a nice Manx style with a surrey top that I have seen in the mornings with grandkids in the back seat. They always have big smiles!
It is posted 60km maximum here and it is rare to see anyone going over 70km so a low powered vehicle is not at all inappropriate, but I was surprised to see more Meharis than VWs.

That would have been Mexico.

Quite a few variants of other VW models were produced in Brazil.

I was working in Mexico in 1992 and our first rental car was a brand new Beetle. No air conditioning and the throttle cable broke in the first week. Had to rig some lock wire and pliers to have a hand throttle. It was fun up to about +25 degrees.

lovley Morris Minor 1000 convertible, a very rare car no matter if left or right hand drive, I am not sure if this is a genuine one (there are many fakes, due to the value) but they all rust away in the end, and the convertible had extra stiffenning welded in (badly) that made the corrosion even worse!, you can buy the bottom six inches of the car if you feel like cutting your own top half body off and welding it on. I cant see the point of that, buy a new shell.

The millionth Morris Minor 1000 did at one time run around in and out of the village that I live in, it was rebadged Morris Minor 1,000,000 ,memory is vague but it might, when new, have been a prize in a competition, can't acurately recall the colour but it could have been lilac.

The Morris Minor convertible brings back a lot of memories. It's a very familiar car to me because my uncle Brian had a green Morris Minor convertible. It was his first and only car. He bought it in the early 1950's when he was a young man, and the car was almost new. He kept it as his daily drive for his entire life until he died at around 80 years old. His daughter christened it "Beetle" when she was quite young, and the name stuck. At some stage during his and its life, he bought another identical car that had been crashed and written off, to use as a parts donor vehicle. I don't know what happened to the car when he died. I presume it got sold. He always kept it in good condition, never crashed, regularly serviced and repaired as necessary. It was always clean and polished and looking like new, so someone would have got a very nice classic car. I don't think it ever rusted because it was kept in a dry garage and regularly polished. I think he had it re-sprayed at least once because he polished the paint off it.
