It looks as if the timing chain tensioner does not need a spring inside?? Am I right? If so, can anyone explain how this tensioner works, I don't seem to get the picture.
Thanks in advance,

Geezer

Geezer,

Idd no spring. Not semi self-adjusting as 750 models.

Tensioning the chain and feel with your finger the tension between the 2 sprockets. At last securing the nut.

Geezer,

The blade is simply pushed towards the chain along its' rear run by the tensioner screw and needs to be adjusted from time to time.  Spring-loaded blades are self-tensioning and usually have no provision for adjustment.

OE factory blades had the lower 2-3cm bent backwards about 15-20?.  Reproduction items available today are straight, this results in the chain chewing away at the lowest portion of uncovered metal.  When fitting a new tensioner blade, stick the lower uncovered bit in a vice and give the blade a tweak.
