RGS Exhaust

As I had to take one muffler off to get the rear wheel off to get the tyre fixed I decided to pull all the exhaust system off and spray the headers and they look great now! Polished the mufflers, collector box and pipe clamps while they were off.

1. The 'mufflers' have absolutely NO baffling of any kind inside them, they are just empty noise producers, no wonder it's so freaking loud! Is that standard?

2. I took no notice of which way around the headers are but noticed the part numbers end with 057, 058, 059, will that be left, centre, right?

3. Will head to the honda shop tomorrow to get new gaskets, pretty sure someone here said any of the old 750 gaskets are correct.

4. Lastly, the bracket that holds the forward end of the mufflers isn't there. It all seem pretty solid when it's together, is it usual for it to be removed permanently? The bracket circled in red below:-

Drikko,

bracket supports exhaust and is travel stop for centre stand when up.  Without it, 3-1-2 systems have the centre stand banging into the mufflers. With standard mufflers there is a lot of weight pivotting around the rubber muffler mounts, so the bracket makes good sense.  If you have Staintunes, then its still a good idea, as the noise canons get dented by the centrestand without the bracket and rubber buffers.
As for the headers, no idea if numbers on pipes align with location, with 120's I've found it easier to fit everything up and makesure it's not binding or hitting on anything to be the best policy.

If you balance the headers on the top with your fingers and look down you"ll see the longer one for the middle.

That factory original bit is steel and rots away, they have been produced in stainless and with a new rubber you will be good for a very long life,
Motalia in UK has them,
but be quick yours might be the last one on the planet!

The bracket shown is only fitted when using standard silencers, if yours are empty they are aftermarket and won't have provision.
If you don't have a stand stop you must fit one, if the stand rests on the exhaust the exhaust will eventualy crack. I weld a simple curved bracket to the centrestand crossbar and fit a rubber bumper stop that rests on the frame when the stand is retracted. Can't find a picture on this computer, I'll have a look when I get home...if I remember  ::)

Header part #s taken from RGS parts catalog;

63 101 057 tubo scarico destro (Europa).....RH
63 101 059 tubo scarico centrale(Europa)...Centre
63 101 058 tubo scarico sinistra (Europa)....LH

US models have different #s, ending 157, 159, 158, either black or have provision for exhaust sensor fixing or both, not specified in the catalog.

The factory bracket is zinc-plated steel and lasts at least 25 years in a normal environment (mine is still in perfect nick), probably rots quicker in the UK due to the millions of tons of salt spread on Her Majestys' highways in winter! :D

When it's all back together I'll check out the centrestand situation but it lands with a thump rather than a hollow clunk so I suspect it isn't landing on the exhaust despite the lack of the bracket. They look like Jota exhausts and red et al keep saying they are, just empty.

As for the part numbers, they are definitely 057,058, 059 but it comes from the US and they have the exhaust sensor fittings already in there! I suspect they were black at one stage judging by the stuff that I sanded off them.

Drikko,

The bracket is mounted underneath the silencer lugs.  Have often seen them mounted to the top of the lugs in an effort to gain a bit of extra cornering clearance, just that the stop is then too high up and the stand then clunks onto the silencers.

Jota exhausts are usually "just empty".... :D

Drikko,
To make sure you have the headers in the correct positions, fit them to the collector, spread them apart to about the correct distance between the exhaust manifolds and place a straight edge across the three inlets; it will be obvious if they are in the wrong way round.

Found the numbers on Wolfgangs site so 057, 058, 059 are R, L, C respectively.

HOLY FUCK I FUCKING HATE THOSE HALF RINGS UNDER THE HEADER CLAMPS!!!!!!!! Did you hear the swearing? The neighbours thought I'd fallen off the roof or something!! I must get rid of those fucking stupid things!!!!!! Ggggrrrrr :o :o :o >:( >:( >:(

Drikko, I used a few judicious dabs of copper grease to hold the half rings in place.
Makes it a hell of a lot easier.

I'm just going to chop the stupid sensor things off and weld them up and get a 3 pack of reds clamps and be done with it :)

Now as to the centre stand stop theres a very neat little bracket bolted to the frame with a rubber stopper in the end. If you like I can take it off and photograph it properly if you ask me nicely :) Pic here:-
