Hi,

I'm in need of an alloy seat trim for an early 750 single seat - I have one of the pair, but am missing the other - the one I have is 36cms long, can anyone sell me another one please?

Thanks Norman

Norman,
This trim is hard to come by. A while back I tried many places that did restorations but only drew blanks. I even tried aluminium suppliers. I then found out that some American BMW R series parts suppliers had some of it available for the R/75 bikes. However the length they supply may be the issue here. Just recently I saw the Guzzino in the US has lengths of trim for sale. They must have found a supplier so they might be able to get a custom length supplied for you. They also supply the fixing screws as well. I use small slotted cup head stainless screws for the retaining screws. Good luck.

Ian, good point about the stainless screws. My '73 3c had the smooth rider's seat portion/square embossed pattern low hump with little rear lip dual seat, with the aluminium trim but used tiny (M3?) phosphate-coated screws (artistically bent over at the factory so you  had to destroy them to get the seat cover off to glue a patch on the inside to stop the split at the front from getting any worse  ::)). Mild steel screw heads sitting in an aluminium channel that traps water and never dries out --> galvanic corrosion, and about half the heads of the screws just popped off from rust. I actually used nylon screws to put it back together, no more corrosion.

Of course traditionalists will be horrified :o, but it was a daily rider for me and the original design was just plain several bad ideas (looked great, though :D). The later all-glued seat covers were better but still not great, but I guess it's not a perfect world in a lot of ways ....
