BSFOS Weekend

What a fantastic weekend! Great racing with some great Laverda results.

Weather started out bad, but got better as the weekend went on. A pleasure to meet and bond with other like-minded people, what a great community!

I didn't count, but would say there would have been 20-25 Lavs on display at the pits, and 3 in the pits.

Importantly, the beer was cold, BBQ's were hot, Lavs aplenty, what more could you ask for. Sure, there were a few bike issues, but that's normal.

Haven't heard anything from the Oz Lav Racing, how did the space frame go?? Well impressed with Steve's results concidering it was a new bike.
Glad you had a good W/E Chris, must have been good catching up with some of the NSW boys again.

Crispin and Blare had a few problems. The underseat alloy tank arrived very late, they finally got it,the fuel pump and header tank done at 400am Friday night so missed qualifying. They arrived on Saturday and it started and ran well, all be it at the back of the grid,no qualifying time.It ran well all weekend till late Sunday when it started to slow, engine problem. With the weight position change of the underseat tank they had handling issues so were a bit slower than before. As far as I am considered with no practise and major unsorted changes they did well, there is a big brake in the races now so I hope they get heaps of testing done and come back real strong.

I agree with Vince, with the limited development time of the new setup, the bike went well, but I'm sure Crispin and Blair were a bit deflated.
Crispin has made some big changes - petrol tank in the area of the battery being the main one, as well as engine changes which he probably has detailed on his OZLAVERDA Racing site.
Great to see them out there - tho I'm not sure about the Gulf colours ? :D

Drmsby gets a mention in the race report here:

http://www.mcnews.com.au/MotorcycleRacing2012/BSFOS/Report.htm

Perhaps someone should let the reporter know that Drmsby was riding a twin. Admittedly the program shows it as a 'Laverda 1000', so if you weren't there it would be easy to jump to the conclusion that it was a triple.

It was an extremely impressive result, well done to Steve B, Drmsby and all of youse.

I gather Troy Corser was riding around the track during the spectator parade. Hard to tell which one he was, they all had helmets on, but apparently he was on a Harley. Which he rode up from Wollongong.

I was surprised to see Blair at the tail end of the field, it didn't seem right.

We should not forget Greg Parish who also went to a lot of trouble to resurrect his triple and only to be bought undone by incompatible valves and valve guides.  What a bummer.

Greg's triple looked fantastic (resplendent in LAVERDA Orange no less) with some interesting mods following on from his campaigns of years ago.
One which I found interesting was the temperature sensor in the exhaust pipe on the middle cylinder.  Greg reports that the temperature is a very reliable tell tale for melt down of the centre pot - don't ask how he knows.
It is registered with the PCRC as a 72 so we should see some interesting racing ahead with both the Breganze-ICR and Greg Parish bikes on track.  And with Crispins spaceframe and Ian's Monty, the races will be a sea of orange.

By the way, Bazzee, the commentator should stay in his nursing home. Getting the number of cylinders wrong was the least of their problems.
I don't think I've heard worse commentary anywhere.  Neither of them on Saturday had any idea of what was going on, they seemed more interested in talking about themselves and who they knew.  If there is one thing that the organisers need to improve, its the commentary.  Appalling is the word I would use, and yes I know its easy to criticise, but they were embarrassing.
Otherwise a great weekend.

Got back a few hours ago after 4 of the 10 hours riding in pouring rain! Great weekend, will write it up when settled in, but thought I'd at least post this pic of Drmsby winning the race in style with arm raised in celebration, chequered flag flying. Sorry about the fuzziness but he was going fast and it's only a point and shoot camera, still gives you the idea:)

I don't have any pics of repairing Levos electrics as I was doing the work dammit, I think others did though. Things happened that night at Walcha which definitely come under the what happens on tour stays on tour banner, suffice to say Virgil earned himself 'legend of the ride" award and he wasn't even riding......:) Best not to publish it here I think hahaha:)

So in the morning there was more red than Red would be happy about, seriously you 180 riders carry on about 120s being gay but where the fuck were you???? Oh that's right, flying down in planes, sorry I forgot.... :D :D :D

Repair #2 Cosi was oiling his chain and noticed this small problem with the back disk :o :o Holy crap, and you were going how fast with it like this Cosi???

IMG_0223.JPG

Moose figures he'd better check his too!

Straight to the pool room.....

Hhhmmm, pretty sure there's light there where there shouldn't be! Three spokes cracked as well. :o :o :o

Gone with the wind?

IMG_0232.JPG

Repair #3 We get nearly a kilometer when Cosi realises the fairing mounting bolt is broken. Fortunately he has a spare. We all carry one of them don't we  :D

IMG_0234.JPG

Repair #4 This is voted a new repair as he actually managed to get 75mm before realising that one of the spark plug leads had been bumped off.

IMG_0236.JPG

Repair #5 I never did find out what this one was fixing as all they could say was 'would you fuck off with that fucking camera..."  :D :D

Well I guess they got their own back when my starter motor shit itself. I wouldn't hear of trying to fix it so bump started for the rest of the weekend. Fortunately I found enough servos on the way home that had a slope to start the old girl. There's no way I was going to risk anyone taking a photo of me fixing argy....

The camp and marquee.

Blah blah blah bullshit bullshit bullshit......

Red finally finds a use for an RGS and it's owner, one to lean on the other to crap on to....

IMG_0276.JPG

That's a lot of header pipes! The chrome platers must have rubbed their hands together with glee when the CBXs were released...

I have no idea where they got "1000" from.  The Historic Log Book lists it as 917, the entry form said 917, where the fuck they got 1000 from anybody knows.  As woeful as the commentators were, it's a logical assumption for those not in the know to make.  Of course those in the know will know that Triples are rubbish race bikes so it obviously must be a twin!

This year's achievement was that they spelt 'Drmsby' correctly. We're gradually making our way up racings food chain. :-)

More later, when I've recovered.  Thanks for all the nice words from those at the track and on here.

Cheers
Steve B

I had a fantastic trip up to Walcha and back, the Oxley was superb, the trip down Thunderbolts Way was pretty messy with pot holes and gravel on the corners.  Putty Rd was awesome.  Just a great ride.  Had a ball, and hope more of you come out next time.

We were under strict instructions not to overtake anyone on the parade lap, I managed to keep with all the Ducati superbikes, which I thought was pretty good considering the level of my hangover!

Now I know who the bloody idiot on the Harley was - Troy Corser!

Marty

What a cracking weekend great racing and Laverda comarderie, Just got home with nearly 3000kms on the old Jota I learnt this arvo that my bike will do 285kms on 17.5 litres of fuel and guess what the tank holds 17.5 litres of fuel, get what Im saying lucky I rolled into the petrol station, Oh by the way Drikko there were quite a lot of 180 Deg Laverdas at Eastern Creek may be your eyes were just a little bloodshot "red"

HAHA, indeed there were. I was having a dig at the qlders of course :) At least Marko turned up on one....

Thanks for the photo's Drikko. Who was carrying the spare rotor for Cosi? Or did he get used to front brakes only? Looks like a great weekend all round.

Would have loved to have been there, maybe next year. A quiet ride across the Nullabor when the triple is back together just so a bit of green can be added to the Laverda paddock could be the order of the day. Maybe get the bike carted to Adelaide, not keen on that 90 mile straight.

Cosi? Brakes?? Nah he never uses them anyway so just left it off. I heard Marty got one from home, not sure if they put it on though.

Hey Davo, Mal and me has talked about putting the lavs in the ute for the drive across the Bore.
Park the ute in Port Augusta with fresh rounded tyres for the Flinders Ranges and beyond.

Vince and David summed our weekend up pretty well. We were lucky to be there at all given the last minute delays of parts arriving and the significant amount of work required. The event turned out as a bit of a full on test weekend for us. We didn't expect to be at the pointy end of the field we were just hoping for some reliability and data we could work with moving forward. There where a number of additional changes that didn't make the final race prep due to time including some fundamental changes needed to balance the weight distribution with the new tank. There was plenty of debate on this item however the plan to move our riders weight further forward along with significantly lowering the center of gravity hasn't been completed yet.

There is a race report up now on our event which delivered good feedback and encouraging was the Gearbox now seems to be fixed and the new fuel system worked faultlessly.

Steve's SFC was awesome and Drmsby road the best I have seen him do clocking a 1:44 around Eastern Creek, very damn impressive.

Cheers Crispin
