It may come as a surprise but Laverda weren't the first to use the name Montjuic on their bikes. They were beaten to it by Bultaco who won the 24 hour race at Montjuic outright in '72 using a 360cc single . Keen to capitalise on the success Bultaco designer Luis Carreras sketched a road going version which sadly never made it into production .
I'm not sure whether it was Laverda or Slaters who came up with the name Montjuic, it was probably Slaters, in which case it wasn't the first time they'd borrowed a snappy name from another manufacturer. The 'Jota' moniker was first used on a Lambo.
