Here's a snippet which be of interest.
It may come as a surprise but Laverda weren't the first to use the name Montjuic on their bikes. They were beaten to it by Bultaco who won the 24 hour race at Montjuic outright in '72 using a 360cc single . Keen to capitalise on the success Bultaco designer Luis Carreras sketched a road going version which sadly never made it into production .
I'm not sure whether it was Laverda or Slaters who came up with the name Montjuic, it was probably Slaters, in which case it wasn't the first time they'd borrowed a snappy name from another manufacturer. The  'Jota' moniker was first used on a Lambo.

The bloke who straightened my wheels has one of those in bits in his shed, currently undergoing a very slow refurb. He used to race it in the Eastern States when (like the rest of us) he was a lot younger.

Well I thought it might make a change from which oil should I use,who makes the best ignition systems, what's the RAL number for Laverda orange, what is causing the mysterious misfire which only seems to occur when there is an 'r' in the month and how fast do you think my Jota will go if I fit some high compression mudguards? :D :D :D

Hi Bob
They went beyond a sketch and developed into a couple of prototype iterations but not into production. But as the bike didn't go into production, perhaps then how could Laverda re-use the name.

As to where the suggestion came from, may very well have been from Slaters but you'd have to think that the 500 class win by Laverda in the 1978 Barcelona 24 hour race would have prompted them.

Davo if your mate has one of the bikes referred to by Bob then he is very lucky as apparently there were only 4 produced according to

Maybe a Metrella or even a modified MX bike?

Cheers
Jason

Could be. I have only seen the bits but it was definitely purpose built for racing. I'll have to catch up with him and find out what it is when the poor retired bastard gets back from his travels in Asia.

I'll have to get more interested - could have been one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bultaco-tss-350-1969-/281149274183?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item4175cd7847&_uhb=1

Just gave the bits a quick glance in passing and didn't really take much interest as the only Bultaco's I knew from my youth were dirt bikes.

??? Depends, what the CR on your high compression mudguards is? Others have mentioned high comp mudguards are useless without a high lift ducktail and electronic sidecover badges, the proof will be in the pudding.

Hans,
No problem at all, apart from the very obvious one. :D :D :D
Regards,
Hans.

theres a supplier in the eastern mid part fo the country that has the very last set in the entire world on his shelf.
CLEM

Are those the High Compression mudguards with the hole melted in the centre.

I believe it provides a jet of cooling air onto the oft overheated centre pot thus freeing at least 10 hp and immediately
making you the envy of all other triple owners.
Be aware that they are a tight fit but I can sell you some special Snake Oil to aid fitting.

I have the HCR mudguards and HLD ducktail on my bike in carbon from Bobba, Red has the badges in stock so no worries about supply, to put it simply, it was the easiest 20hp gain I've made so far

I find it hard to believe you could double your horsepower with such a simple mod :D

Nothing to do with your recent purchase of a Matador SD then, Bob?  :D :D :D

:D :D :D Don't worry Andy, there's still plenty of Laverdas in my garage Andy, but there's nowt wrong with broadening one's horizons is there?.
Funnily enough, had a very entertaining day out in the Lakes today on the SD, 150 miles re-tracing the route of the original 1913 ISDT. Not only did I get it dirty , I also fell off it on a green lane.  No harm done but I was seeing stars for a few minutes.
And whilst I was out I spotted a nice silver Laverda [SF3 or a Jota]. My excuse for not knowing the difference is I was reading a map at the time and saw it out of the corner of my eye as it flashed past one of the checkpoints. I'm sure it had high compression mudguards...
I wonder who it was?
