ok, so i'll take the liberty to kick this off & answer Will's earlier question from elsewhere.

To fit the Duca :-X front hub to the Suzuki forks, I had to machine up two 7.5mm spacer/adaptors as well. It took a while to work it out but Mark 2 worked fine.

The swingarm is an FJR1300 item. I shortened it by 120mm at the front. Too much hastle, I agree, but when I did it I had more time on my hands. I was tempted to make up my own chunky steel one from 42mm tube, but reading Steve Battisons account of making his own swing-arm, I feared it would stretch my patience. I may even have a go once it's on the road.

Shockers are NOS S&W's that I had tucked away from when I had more hair.

Bones, I actually like the convensional forks. I have 10 weight oil in them, but they are way to hard for the road and will experiment with my own concoction, I'm thinking 7 weight, but time will tell.

I have no problems with a few subtle modifications and am in no way a purist, though, if I had an original SFC I could be swayed.  ;)

  cheers

& i'm prepared to patiently wait for the next installment.  :-*

Not getting at you, but he starts a thread, doesn't put up any pics and then we have to trawl through gOD (hiya hENRY) knows how many other threads to find them.

C'mon CK, we are all waiting here with bated breath.

Sorry fellas, I just started it on my phone and wasn't going to sit there all night looking at a little screen. Will address it promptly.

I purchsed the frame for this bike in the late 90's from a bloke in Singleton NSW, for $50. It was desined for the scrap yard. I had picked up the SFC style tank and seat, along with what was thought to be a complete SF1 engine in peices, from Lino in Sydney.

My intention was to make up a replica, but when I moved to Queensland I didn't have any Laverda contacts here. So I built this. Much to the disgust of some, love it or hate it, it was fun and the Laverda tank on the badge was done as a dare ....... Raised some eyebrows as expected, and was a great converstion starter.

Then, on Christmas eve, a couple a days after I'd fired it up and rode it for the first time, the whole thing was burnt to the ground due to a fire in the shed, and a rebuild was needed.
Lavuki%20Fire_zpsrqipuw7a.jpg

So, over another 10 weeks it ended up as seen here at the Barry Sheene weekend.

And then, off the the Qld Concours, where I talked to Red about building the SF1 motor for me.

Red finished the motor and I started the process of building up the bike. Lots of time has been spent considering lots of options.
This isn't intended as an SFC replica, far from it. It just has a few SFC style parts. Boba is doing the SFC style carbon bodywork now.

The motor should go pretty good, here's a list of what Red did.

Bore 880cc Piston/Liner/Gasket set for 750 twin, ex Andy Wagner
92mm liners
Oil Cooler provision, Nipple adaptors
Bore and hone barrelsMachine top of barrels
Machine 8 x Engine studs, wasted to 8mm
Bored and Honed barrels
Machined primary drive sprockets, crankshaft and clutch to 2 row teeth
Carrillo Conrods
New Big End Bearings & cages
SFC Crank middle section, 35mm big pin
Rebuilt crankshaft, pressed together at 270 deg
New Oil Slingers
New Big End pins
Carbon Fibre Clutch plates
Drilled oilways in Clutch Basket
SFC type clutch springs
Gearbox rebuilt
Set new dual SFC Valve Springs 4
Custom Valve Collet retainers to suit 7mm Valve stems, CNC machined
Hardened custom Valve Collet retainers
7mm Valve collets
Set SFC Rocker Arms
SFC Rocker arm adjuster screws
Custom 7mm Manganese Bronze Valve Guides
44mm Inlet Valves, coated Stainless, hardened tips
35.5mm Exhaust Valves, coated Stainless, hardened tips
Ignitech electronic ignition and a shitload of machining too.

Then I'll top it off with these Dellorto PHF36A carbs.

And the SFC 2 into 1.

The wheels for this are Ducati Spoort Classic wheels. I had a 4.5" rim fitted to the rear with 120 and 160 front and rear, stainless steel spokes were fitted when laced. Ash's wheelworks did the the work and he even offset the rim 10mm to the hub, allowing for the almost correct chain run. I took another 5mm off the sprocket carrier to get it right.

Then I had to make up the spacers and adaptors to get the 310mm SV1000 discs to fit the Ducati hubs. My life turned to shit doing this ........ I mean how hard can it be? Real hard. About 3 attemps and swarf that would sink a ship ..... but very happy with the end result.

Brake line routing.

And gear change over through swingarm spindle.

All of these little things are what takes time and a lot of consderation. I can do something and look at it, look again and still not like what I see. I call it OCD, it's not, but not disimilar. It's the waking up at 1.00am and thinking  that's how to do it ...... which I find interesting ...... do I think about motorbikes in my sleep? Maybe so.

Admired your GSXR engined bike at the BSFOS a couple of years ago Chris. Must say I was very impressed by the workmanship put into the build. I believe that really really good 'specials' shouldn't look special at all but look as if they have just come off the assembly line.

Is that a nyloc dome nut? I didn't know such a thing existed.

Tis what they used back then Cam. Stops oil from spurting past the nut.
I'm replacing them with domed ( ??? is that how domed is spelt?) stainless jobbies through DAM Laverda.
