Hello Laverda folk, Need your wisdom and knowledge to help us out here on this riddle.

I recently purchased a run down but complete 1988 1000RGS  with 6300k on the clock, Trouble is ive seen nothing like it before wheather its a cafe racer chop job im not sure... I been offered one explanation of its origins as the Japan laverda agents ordered 5 of this style bike to complete against the MV Augusta type of that period. I cant be sure about that explanation so ive loaded heaps of pics. cheers Andrew and look forward to hearing you guys thoughts.

I think I saw this and discussed it with you on FB.
It was indeed one of a few commissioned by the Japanese importer, broadly styled along the lines of MV Agustas.
I have a contact in Japan who is/was chairman of  Laverda Club Japan.
He has one of these bikes too.

What more do you need to know about this?

looks like the MS Laverda was moored uncovered for quite a while ::)
Nevertheless a nice transformation and worth keeping the livery ;)

Regards,
Gerald

The Fairing looks like Stucci or Motoplast, the seat looks like Moto Guzzi, the tank filler cap like old norton (Monza-Style?!?) or so, the painting-sheme is JPS (like the 1200 Anniversary or the later black 1000 SFC classic). The tacho is for sure from a japs bike, the speedo looks a bit like an 80mm Version of the 1000 SFC speedo but without the mph numbers. Still interesting...

And the condition looks like this MotorShip was drowned at least 10 meters deep...  :o

Moto Officina has one, too...:

Mate... Thats fantastic news cause I needed to know if it was a significant bike or a some body cafe chop job.. Ill definitely will put the effort in to rebuilding as original as possible.
Also that answers the "M S laverda" inscription on the tank.

Brilliant couldn't be happier, its would be awesome to confirm the numbers of these made on FB i had a chappy suggesting 5 odd were done.

So far ive resisted the temptation to dismantle as were just starting process to construct new home...  so want to keep as is.. but have drain the foul smelling very old separated gas from tank ( smelt more like thinners than petrol) removed battery and plugs will give compression test this weekend to see were it lies.

Thanks every one with your help Cheers Andrew

I have asked a contact in Laverda club Japan if he has any information he can share on this, in fact the owner of the bike I posted.

Hello everyone, this is Kozo of LAVERDA Japan.
This is Murayama special as Marnix says.
It is a dealer original made by Murayama Motors of LAVERDA dealer in Japan.
At that time Murayama Motors staff and those who liked MV augusta made with a design like MV. However, since we do not actually understand how many units were actually made, it is being confirmed by a person who knows it. The base RGS is mixed, it is a corsa or a standard. I will post it here when I get in touch with the person who made it.

Merry Xmas and a happy new year boys.. Hey Grant, Kozo have you managed to get a hold of the dude who built these and as some questions about the bike can you pass his contact details to me! Id be much appreciated to get the full history of this machine. Cheers Andrew / Box65
