Does anyone know where I may be able to source a gearbox neutral switch for a 1974 SF2.
The small nut that secures the wire on mine has sheared off.

I have tried Motalia and Laverda paradies but neither have one.

Any help would be appreciated.
Even a old working one.

Same as sump plug, M14x1.5. You need a small hex to fit into the casting recess though, 17mm is the original. A thin wall socket required also! Maybe the 750 isn't so pernickety, neither of my 750's has one.

It's a fiddly setup, the narrow sealing surface, combined with the undercut at the base of the thread means that a normal 14mm copper washer can easily kick across enough to leave a gap on the sealing face. That is made all the worse if you need more than one washer to get the right switch point. I tend to work out what thickness I need to actuate the switch then machine up a copper washer of the right thickness with M14 tapped thru. That holds it central on the switch when it goes in.

Grazie, Steve. Had an odd feeling it was some weird tapered gas fitting thread - no idea where i got that idea from

I might even see if I can put something through from inside the cases. Don't care what i use, long as it's sealed and I never have to look at it or worry about it again.

I don't use the neutral light and want to plug the hole with a bolt.
That's not going to work Quentin. You need the neutral light switch to wire your starter relay through. Just ask Ron.

I've been wondering what else you could use the hole for. Maybe an oil temperature sensor. Or perhaps a microphone (something like a guitar pickup I imagine) so you can listen to the various knocks and rattles in your engine.

I had them hand made by my friend at Motorworks, for triples and twins as there were no suppliers,,took a lot of setting up,so my price is what it is,I am no longer making them as my engineer retired, and only have 3 or 4 of each left. As Lidl says when there gone there gone.

Hi Shaun,

Sorry! I should have engaged brain before typing, especially given I know the difficulty and expense of making stuff in small numbers. No doubt like most small volume manufacture you'll be lucky to make your initial investment back even when they all sell eventually. I'll buy you a few beers if they ever let us out of this farken penal colony again! :)

Cheers

This is a bit weird as Ralph (Motalia) managed to find the supplier of these switches and he had a batch made by them and the minimum order was about the same as the the total number of bikes made, AFAIK one "from another bike" has never been found, I saw them in his storage and it loked like 150 years worth of switches
