A damaged sciatic nerve is a rare complication in what is a current surgical act. I've just had a quick look, it's prevalence is around 0.5 % and it's either due to compression by a post operative haematoma in which case a surgical cure is necessary, or a traumatic surgical lesion.
You probably know all this.
It usually entails a regressive inability to lift the foot.
