Regulators

Hi all,
I hope this is not too much of a dopey question, but looking at using a regulator/rectifier from a Honda/Suzuki etc,
So for example, ehat does the 2.7 mean, see attached picture, and how relevant is this number?

That is an oldie, how many wires are there, 5 or 6? Possibly it has a fixed socket ie not on flying leads. j.

Otherwise, Paul's question has to be the good one, SkinnyPinny. Do please say which model of bike you are proposing to fit this regulator to.

I s'pose you are just thinking of using it because you happen to have it?

My five cents' worth is that I'd hesitate to install an ancient, used, R/R on a bike without testing it to see if it still operates within factory specs. Electronic parts age and lose function. Solder joints separate from traces.

A new Shindengen R/R kit eliminates a potential failure point.

Make the good points ( one for Paul, a wry smile here ) lads, fwiw did fit regs to HKZ systems, little to be lost, gain was to get rid of the fire trap previous factory rectifier, do lose about 1,2V however ( replacement reg is a six pulse rectifier, can be used as a 2 pulse or 4...yes its my usual full revelation complication.. another grin here,

Of HKZ, by fitting a shunt or series RR, you can remove the quaint bucking coil that sits on top of the single alternator coil, doing so preserves the precious little output voltage and dare i say "power" of that single coil, about 7amps is a yardstick, hth j

Hi all,
I have not fitted anything to anything yet,
I was looking at options for a kawasaki z1000 that’s overcharging and was trying to avoid cheap Chinese versions so figured a used R/R from Honda/Suzuki etc would be better,
Looking on line I saw some on eBay and just wondered what 2.7 referred to,
Wiring seems straightforward I.e. 5 wire, 3 yellow (stator) plus a neg and positive,
I know there is a lot of experts on this forum hence my question,

Incidentally, I have an new FH020AA waiting to be fitted to my sfc1000, to make it easier I got a fitting kit from eastern beaver, great stuff from them, recommended!!!

Well, yes you are correct, my options in the UK are Electrex, (not plug & play) ZPower which is p&p, but a bit more expensive. I like using stuff I have to hand or can get cheaply, hence why I looked at used original equipment ones from Japanese bikes, btw I get most of my Zed stuff from ZPower, always been good, Stuart

I have an FH0847 on my RGS, also with Eastern Electric wiring kit, great.

Make sure to buy Eastern's headlight relay wiring kit - it makes the FIAT lamp blaze. I also have the horn relay kit, it's hilarious how loud the horns are, they make people jump.
