RGS Build Dates

I have RGS chassis /engine number 1951. From the Laverda Mania register https://www.laverdamania.net/registre-1000-120-1982-1989/ this would make it 1983. This would sound about right as I have 1291 register in August 1982 and SFCs 2790 and 2794 registered in August 1985. However 1951 was also registered in August 1985. Now I have heard how long some of these bikes sat around in showrooms so I think mine is one that sat on the shelf for a couple of years before being registered.

If it is a 1983 build then it is now tax exempt :) .

Is there any way I can 'prove' this to DVLA in the UK?

Short answer:
You, possibly, with help from Clem, and a hand-written note from god, convince the DVLA that it was manufactured in '83.
However, by the time you did, an August '85 registered bike would qualify for 'Historic Vehicle' status (1st April '26).
Unless, of course, the incoming government decide to freeze, or raise, the "40 year" exemptions.

My advice to you is dont bother, yes I can prove the correct manufacturers date, and would be happy to do so (free if you are an ILOC member intending on keeping the bike) but DVLA have an inset unwritten rule that once something is on the computer it cannot poissiby be wrong and are very reluctant to change details such as "year of manufacturer", swap an engine, or change colour, = no problem, It has been successsfully done in the past but is simply loads of hassle with multiple rejections and time wasted, its just not worth it, free tax and MOT exemption do not compensate for the work and grief involved by a very wide country mile.
Should you wish a dating letter from me, you can see what I ask people to do on the ILOC website, as I said its free for members, but £25 for those who are not or £50 if you are trade or intending selling the bike with its enhanced status.

Thanks Clem - I will need to send you details in a couple of weeks of my SFC when it arrives back from Ged for insurance values (my free member one), so I will have a think about paying the extra for the RGS but it is probably futile.
