DVLA registration woes

Returning to Clem’s post on movement of vehicles between IOM/UK it should be a simple process but often it’s not because some civil servant doesn’t understand their own rules, or hasn’t even bothered to read them. However, one reoccurring problem I’ve had is trying to persuade UK owners I need the whole logbook/V5 in order to register the bike/van/car in the IOM.

100% its usually down to the burocrate and what side of the bed they got out of. The only time I went full Karren and asked for THE MANAGER was exactly this stuff. It went from Zero chance to all we need Sir is a Stat Dec, Statutory Declaration, Sworn Statement, recording all the facts. Stat Dec is a Sworn Statement, with Purgary provisions if you knowingly Lie to cover their bureaucratic arse.

Aaand, we have a result!

It turned out that I needed to roughly translate the Dutch registration document for them, using big red arrows and big bold red letters to explain the following: it's not a first registration, look it was registered in the Netherlands - this was it's registration number (complete with pointy arrow). This was the date and year of manufacture as determined by the Dutch authorities when it was imported from Italy and registered (another red pointy arrow). This is the VIN (BIG pointy arrow) to show it's actually the same vehicle as the one in my application to be registered here...

V5 landed this morning, third time lucky, and just in the nick of time for the 75th in Breganze. Historic vehicle, registered with a 1969 plate, as befits its year of manufacture. Hello EAH 104G :D
