German Magazin Oldtimer Praxis Lothar and Piet

There is a report made with Lothar and Piet in the german oltimer praxis magazine.
Hi Lothar, nice looking bike!

It looks like a speedometer from a later bike, perhaps a Zane' twin? I have a couple spare from Zane' bikes used for racing but hadn't considered them useful for the Breganze bikes with different wheel size, not sure if the axle drive gear ratio is the same, and it reads in kph so I wonder what is your experience - does it read speed and distance accurately?

Hi there, thanks. Let's put it this way: it's not much more off than the Breganze original speedo... 😂

Honestly: the fact that it is used on the Zanes with 17" wheels and now used on the Jota with 18" wheel isn't totally giving it accuracy, but you are just about 10% higher in reading. So when I ride at 60km/h, it is a bit above 50 really (like 52 - 54), which keeps me safely within the still accepted boundaries of the speed limit in Germany. Same if there is 100km/h speed limit, I can go up to 110 safely according to the GPS of my TomTom Rider. The gearing actually is the same I think as on the ND speedos. And it shows both Km/h and M/h, should be usable therefore. but please check with a GPS.

What you can't use though is the tacho from the Zane (unless you have a Ignitech Ignition!). The Tacho needs a controlled rectangular signal, which is not what you are getting if you grab the signal off of the coils. Learned that the hard way by toasting the Zane tacho... That's why I used one off of a Yamaha (YZF? Carburator model from beginning of the 90's).
