second hand laverdas all over the place at the moment

There`s a dealer here up in Yorkshire called Padgetts , a long term Yamaha dealer ( plus others ) ........ They seem to have the knack of discovering / stumbling across / exposing to daylight , brand new , still crated up examples of bikes from the last twenty to thirty years or so from the depths of their warehouse ........... Usually things like OW01`s or YZF750R-SP`s amongst others ..........

They never dealt with Laverdas though , so not much chance of a new one of those being forklifted blinking out into the sunlight ........

Of course , there is the possibility of these " re- discovered " bikes having been carefully stored away many years ago , only to be released now , in order to take advantage of " classic status " market values ......... perish the thought .................

They was a story related by either Steve or Lester Harris about a batch of TZ350 frames they made for Padgetts ......... a price was agreed , and " Old man Padgett " .... their words ...... presumably Don ........ came down to collect the frames ........

On arrival , he was presented with the bill for the agreed upon deal........ but he goes .. " Oh no , there must be some mistake ....... we`ll have to negotiate a lower price ... " ........

When it was pointed out the price had been agreed upon beforehand , he says ... " Ok then , you keep the frames ........ you`ll never sell them anyway , they`re painted red ..... ( which was what Padgetts requested ) ...........

Steve Harris replied that it would be no trouble for the frames to be re-painted , and sold onto someone else ....... so he could return back to Yorkshire without his frames if he so wished ........ No problem as far as Harris was concerned ...........

Reluctantly , Padgett coughed up the agreed price , and set off back home with the frames in the back of his van ..............

Yorkshiremen and money ........... almost as mean as the Scots .......... ;) .................

However, that's not my understanding but in fact the definition of a Yorkshireman is a Scotsman with all the generosity wrung out....

... sorry about the detour rodbargee ........ couldn`t resist ..............

.....oops ...... just seen that you`re from Yorkshire as well , never realised .......... I guess that`s a double apology in order ........... ;) ..............

There`s a nice blue `69 750GT on UK eBay for £4950 ......... trouble is I`d have trouble scraping £4.95 together at the moment ......

Shame , I could see myself glancing at my reflection in shop windows whilst riding along on that ..........

I do it all the time , but have never ridden a Harley .......... just make sure the car in front doesn`t brake unexpectedly whilst you`re doing it ...........

Actually I wouldn`t mind a Harley if I had the space / time / money / could find the right one .... None of that full dress or Sportster or Wide Glide crap .

It would have to be like the one I used to see now and again on the ride home from work .... A Low Rider Convertible , or some sort of Low Rider I think .
Dulux painted off white , grubby and slightly rusty ..... It had that lived-in look which came from it being constantly used ....... It always appealed to me as it chuffed , popped , and banged it`s way up the road ........

Around about 1995 would be the cut off point ........ after that forget it ...............

I’ve seen a couple of 750s for sale stateside priced at $10k USD which never sell, and Bella Moto in San Francisco has tried selling 750 and 1000s for crazy prices, which also never sell. Sellers don’t realize that Boomers with money are too old to ride them, and younger folks have no interest in them- they just want electric toys with rider aides.

I almost hate to admit this….

For gawd’s sake, please tell me that you’re not a Marxy avatar?
I’m not a harbinger of doom but I am only 58, which means I can still kickstart a Goldstar or a Vincent! For me prices plummeting, no interest in the market, lack of mechanical skills of potential buyers plays right into my hands. I don’t actually fancy a Laverda triple but a Vinny, an Indian Scout ,GoldStar, Nimbus or a Veteran motorcycle may well be on the cards. The irony is I’m currently racing pre ‘74 motocross and those bikes are still making big money🙄
