100 bhp please,

Romeo :)  most bikes suffer the same issue, its not a fault of the Stainless Steel, thats just been covered pretty well. I use Commercial alloy wheel cleaner. You need to be carefull with the rest of the bike, chrome is ok but it takes the Passivated zinc coating off bolts pretty quick.  Been using it for years, not a one off and it really is very good at taking tarnish and surface rust off of Stainless exhausts. I use it on systems that are ten years without cleaning...

Optimum, is to remove system on your prized bikes ( I dont bother doing this), paint on a dilute mix, rub the system with a green nylon scouring pad (if you spray it, tends to carry in the wind to your eyes and chest potentially) and hose it off.  I dont have polished systems but one could argue, if the system is rusty, that isnt the issue, Doesnt etch, just washes the corrosion off and leaves  fresh silver finish. I use it with a green scouring pad and rubber gloves, picture it now  !

Cheers Rob

I do it now and then , last time few months ago i did it with wather and Trizak ( round sponge lower side fine abrasive mostly used by car painters for sanding clar coat down) . It looks grat for 1 day , i live near sea and driving to downtown it is one way road on sea side .
Each afternon there are smal wawes but inaf to have sea wather on road , wherewer the salt wather drop fals on warm heder it builds emidiatly rust spot.
If the heders ware chromed, painted or titanium , this will not hepend .

Got loads on my bike too DOC. I didn't use stainless on wheel spindles, triple clamp bolts, engine bracket studs, swinging arm spindle, and caliper clamping bolts.

Mine is all SS except for the swing arm spindle Simon. Most of it bought off Coxy all those years ago.  :o
Next time the Jota is in pieces (2022?), I really should have everything checked for cracking, although I believe it's sturdy enough! Who knows. The bike doesn't get pushed too hard these days, though some of those freaking UK potholes are really bone and bike jarring bar stewards...

Cheers

DoC!

Simon, not a problem on triple clamp bolts or caliper clamp bolts - very low stress in both those situations. Probably could help reduce alloy/steel electrolytic corrosion too.

G'day Poffer

If you are suggesting that the use of stainless bolts in aluminium components would reduce alloy/steel electrolytic corrosion, then you have it backwards.

In the galvanic process between steel and aluminium, it's the aluminium that is the anode - ie, the part that corrodes. Stainless is more cathodic than mild or carbon steel, so the aluminium is likely to corrode more quickly in the presence of stainless than carbon steel.

This is something that boat owners are familiar with. When assembling aluminium masts with stainless fixings, it's good practice to use an anti-corrosive jointing compound such as Duralac - known among Australian yachties as "cocky shit" because that's what it looks like. (cocky = cockatoo, a parrot native to Australia).

Cheers,
Cam

Cam,

Yep, you're right. Got my galvanic table wrong - thought it was s'steel beside alloy....but it isn't, it's carbon steel/cast iron.

Ooops, sorry  ::)

I am happy with this parts except of the rust thing it looks ugly , maybe to chrome them or simply paint whole sistem black .
stainless will rust if somewhere in production someone has got mild steel  particles on it either by grinding or welding the item can be cleaned and seem ok then when it gets wet it rusts

Hmmmm. Ok, pretty much decided on engine spec now. Head to be done by Keith, 36 miks. Hi comp pistons, Carrillo rods, balanced lightened crank. Will stick with 4c cams. Redax uprated ingnition/ charging system. Uprated oil pump. Now to deal with exhaust. Really want to go down the 3 into1 route. Keith made a lovely looking steped set of headers for someone, would like to know how they performed and also the Laverda corsa headers against a well set up 3 into 2 system. Prefer the more balance look of the 3 into 2, but weight is a big factor and also the desire to show off the lovely swing arm. Thoughts please. Fuck fucity fuck. :D

Bloody bunch of reprobates, instead of my normal drivel I've asked a reasonably interesting question. Can't one of you come up with an answer? Tempted to call you all a bunch of tossers but I fear that would only make me laugh. Oh well. Fuck fucity fuck.
