Ain't that a pretty sight !

The kindness and generosity in our "band of brothers" is always nice to see.
Ive been helped many times when Ive been proper stuck. My bike's wearing this goodwill and she's all the better for it.

I had a look at Marty's 120 Jota today it does have a washer or spacer at the speedo drive, and the disc's have different clearance, it doesnt weave.... well if I could ever catch him then could validate that point I guess.

However there were a few blokes that have had weavers esp 180's... one in particular I can remember was downright dangerous following him... he also had Gazi rears... however once he finally got them sorted and set up to his weight etc.. no more weave... now I can attest to that in that as on the last Snowy run we were running very high speeds in very very close proximity in that we were nearly shaking hands with each other and not a weave from his bike.

Gazi's have a lot of adjustment maybe too much for the average Jo and you have to tailor to suit your individual tastes... so I doubt very much that you have anything more sinister than the need to set up your suspension to suit you.... your bike is a beautiful peice of machinery and in many ways  I would venture to say in every way much better than when it other of came off the factory floor.

Surely someone in SA could loan you a set of Koni's bolt them suckers on that way then you will know it is simply setting up the Gazi's. If you need can loan you a set so you can try just cover the postage costs.

I have the softer springs that Red organised for me,and the bike is booked in at the local suspension shop next Friday to be set up properly for me.
This is the first step,I'll see how it goes after that.

There is supposed to be one there, as Piet said - ITEM 17 on drawing:

Morning all.

Can anyone tell me what is the thickness and the outside diameter of the little washer, part 17 on the diagram above. For a 180 Jota that is.

I am hoping to pick one up from my very good nut bolts and washer shop, rather than paying ?7.50 including postage from a laverda parts supplier.

If this is a false economy then I will pay the money, but if I can pick one up for penniess then I would rather do that.

I'd be very surprised that you need it - the washer sits very firmly in the speedo drive casting and is not a free floating part. It's 24mm OD 20mm ID and around 2.4mm thick (don't have one to hand, so that's a guess!). It's steel and designed to provide a positive stop and prevent the spindle shoulder pulling into the soft alloy of the speedo housing, as Piet said previously.

Photo shows housing without the spacer. Unless you look carefully at yours, it's easy for the dirt of ages to obscure it.

Dunno who your parts supplier is, but I reckon you should try another!

Thanks Rob, I have checked mine and there is an inset washer as you say. The thing is, that my speedo housing has signs of crush damage in the area which made me think that these was something missing. Is it possible to over tighten the axle and do something like that ? Given the belt and braces bolts in the end of the fork legs, perhaps there is something to be said for doing it up tight, but not too tight. is there a torque wrench setting for that axle end bolt ?

See Piet's reference to previous owners bodgers !!!
There shouldn't be any crush damage if the spindle is kept lightly greased to avoid the need for hitting it with a hammer, and the correct spacer used. Corrosion makes life more difficult.  It should be possible to insert and withdraw the spindle with hand pressure.

Don't think the factory quoted torque values on the earlier models, but the RGS workshop manual (similar arrangement) calls for 52-59 lb.ft.
