1200 Mirage

That's really interesting  thanks, so id guess it was built at the same time as mine being 2 numbers apart

You would have thought that if they where all ready made well before the paris launch,  why it was a long wait before slaters got their 1st batch in late november, but I'm sure many will understand the workings of laverda production better than me..
It would be interesting to know who the did the dating as they must have some great knowledge of laverda production to share.

Thanks again..

Hi Steve,

I've sent you an email.

Alan :)

Have just dug out that Dennis Noyes article (12 Nov 1977) I mentioned earlier so thought I`d relate a small part of it (if anyone`s interested)-
" A month before the Paris unveiling of the 1200 I heard a very convincing rumour in Barcelona that a new larger capacity roadster was being developed in Breganze,so I hopped on my Honda 400 and headed for Italy"
"This, said Massimo Laverda,is our new bike. Our intention here is to manufacture a high speed touring roadster. We have lowered the compression slightly and increased the capacity and the result has been slightly more power, but an even wider torque band than we had before".
"On our  test bed we are getting 4-5 more bhp with our 1200 than with the standard 3CL 1000cc triple. Our 1000cc bike will continue in production as sports bikes, and the 1200 is our touring model.Undoubtedly the 1200 is fast, but it is not just fast,it is flexible and quieter. Our highest performing machine continues to be the Jota that we produce exclusively for Roger Slater in Britain".
As for his test ride-
"Even from 2000 rpm the big engine will accept sudden throttle openings without hesitation and the power that comes on is fierce but steady. There is no sudden increase in power at high revs, but the horses that come galloping through between 5000 and 7000 rpm are enough to lighten the front end and leave the rider hanging on in amazement as the scenery rushes by".
I guess this may be the same Dennis Noyes that did Moto GP commentary on Eurosport so hope he doesn`t mind if he happens to come across this.

Alan - I've been getting spam from your email address over the last few days. Just wonder whether your account is secure and fully under your control?

Steve - you can update your email address under Profile -> Account Settings

Rob - from the email address in the post above?
If so, apologies, I'll change the password (again)

Yep.  It's probably that the address has been spoofed rather than your account compromised, since I assume you're still able to access it OK. A bloody annoying situation that can only be resolved by waiting for the spammer to move on... assuming you want to hold on to your email address :(

Thanks Rob.
I continue to use the account daily - and have done for 20+ years - so no wish to change it or let some spamming twat get his hands on it. Didn't realise I was quite so popular.... ::)

Yeah - only needs a mailing list to get passed on to some ne'er-do-well and then grief ensues.  The more cautious folk amongst us avoid including their primary email address in online blogs and posts or when signing up for something like a mailing list, contest, application form.  That's alright if you don't mind operating with a few secondary accounts and the hassle that entails!

Useful advice, thanks Rob.
BTW, I've just sent you a genuine email from the same email address - something for your attention please ;)
