180 engine strip down: Progress so far.............

Moving on from more interesting things than..... where to mount the choke lever. Here are some photo's of my engine strip down.
Background: I bought project bike after it been standing for 12+ years in Italy. It could have easily been turned into a parts bike but I've decided to save this one Other than that, no history is known.....

Some damage has been caused to the LHS stand mounting lug. When I removed the stand I was suprised how twisted it was!!!! It's only now with thr engine out that I can see the damage.
I don't know what has happened but the welded lug has been partly pulled away from the frame - it looks like the lug has been pushed backwards towards the rear wheel.

I think the sawed off bracket was for the brake pedal stop if you have a left hand brake/right hand shift machine (non rearset). If your bike has the left hand shift conversion then the bracket is non-functional. Curious about the centre stand mounting lug damage. I wonder if the centre stand spring broke and dropped the stand down while in motion. A good reason to have 2 springs on the stand.

Quite common..... happens when the previous poser owner/s of the bike sit, see-saw and jump around on the bike while perched on the centre stand.  The lugs are designed to carry the bikes' weight, not an additional 100kgs prancing around on them!

Easy to repair, though.  Only a bit of heat and a big-ish hammer needed.  The stand can be a different story, these are often horribly bent and twisted, sourcing a good used item might be a lot easier!

Just saw the pic of the stand, should come out OK.  Need a sturdy bench vise and a long bar, maybe a bit of heat..... :D

Also, These are my 'rear-sets'!! Does anybody recognise these? Are they conventional...............

Seem to be a copy of the Cinque Annelli items... at least they use the same mounting points.

i'll second dennis's remark about saving it  8)

rearsets look like raask

torn centrestand bracket looks like it is twisted forward

hard to tell about amount of wear on thrust face of piston
fair chance it will clean up and be usable
deciding factor will be bore condition

The Raasks that came with my triple were definitely different, large banana-shaped cast brackets utilising the top rear engine mounts with levers made from chromed steel tube.  Were a piece of shit.... gear change lever foot tab broke off on the first day of my vacation, gear change lever on the splined shaft broke, jury-rigged a vise grip safety-wired to the bike to get me through 3 weeks of riding through France, Spain and Portugal.... :o :(

Check wear of the top ring groove, chances are there is a lot of slop resulting in massive oil output through the breather above 6 grand!

I actually emailed Sivert Raask about Laverda rearsets, since he doesn't list them as available anymore. He will still sell them, in several different variants (fixed or folding, alloy or steel, rubber or knurled). He uses the same pedals and pegs for quite a few different bikes, just supplies hangers and rods and whatever combination of pedals and pegs the customer wants. I had a set of fixed alloy ones for a XS750 once (blush! at least it was a triple!), and they held up very well. Didn't look too bad either, although on a Yamaha triple looks are very subjective.
I guess I was lucky, you weren't. But the Raasks are still quite a bit cheaper than Tarozzis or Cinque Anellis, $200 complete with all rods and attachments (plus shipping). I was very tempted to go with them again.
