1969 GT tacho drive

I think the drive should have thrust washers top and bottom, anybody know the thickness? This one is missing the washers. Alternatively what end float should I aim for. Thanks. Marty
 
Yes, 8. Depends on the fuel you have but my SFC is fouling 9s now and needs 8s. It used to be fine with 9s. Same story on the S.
7s might be a bit risky but it would depend on the riding you do. I should think they'd be fine for pottering about.

Yes, HARDENED thrust washers either side, Marty. About a mm each, but thickness is not too important, as long as the gear has a little axial clearance and is free to turn easily. Main thing is that the gear doesn't bear on the alloy or brass bits directly.

Imagine buying a bike like that Marty - I couldn't live with it until I'd stripped it of every nut and bolt and built it up from scratch.
BTW the SFQ is running 9s. Lots of idling while I check Ignitech settings and not prob with fouling. I'll only go to 8s if it's absolutely nec but running a 5/C, open pipes and over 10:1 CR I'd be worried when caning it.
 
Are you taking the piss about the name Errol Marty? As in Errol Flynn, shags everything that moves. Or is it a real name?
Reason I ask is that I have a bloke in ACT helping me sort a problem with my Benelli dashboard. His name is Errol.
 
Have sourced 2 second hand genuine (I think) thrust washers. Interestingly they are not flat, witness mark on the inside on the hilly side, outside on the valley side. Who knew this could be so complicated..... I am thinking of going with the hill side to the drive shaft. Thoughts?

That makes sense, less contact area and smaller rolling diameter on rotating shaft. It’s oil fed and running a half engine speed so will be fine.
