One of the earliest magazine tests here in Germany featured a 3C with a 3-1 system. Also shown on a broschure issued by the first official importer Bühler/Stuttgart, late '73-early '74.

I actually have a NOS 3-1 collector, keeping it for a future project. ;)

3-1 do sound great, especially on the 120° engines. However, it needs a decent size muffler to cope with the gas flow and noise emissions...

I'm guessing the factory settled on the 3-2 for power reasons. AfaIk, a stock LH silencer similar to those used in the previous production was fitted for the 3-1. The homologation sheet shows what does look like a stock can. This would in my opinion stifle the engine somewhat, even in its' early development spec. The silencer shown in the diagram already has the larger inlet tube, as opposed to the tiny 20mm(?) inlet used on the earliest drummers.

But hey, it does look cool!;)
